My stepson worked for a chain type like that, and they would force him to lie and up sell items and stuff and he hated it, cause he's a good kid...and he was happily surprised when we moved and he found job at local lube shop (NOT a franchise), that trained him and they HONESTLY Do Not push upselliing, if they don't believe it's needed there... but their oil change is a bit more pricey than some shops, but lesser than stealerships... he like working there and they pay a bit more than the other franchise place did.
I don't take my car there, cause there's no family discount and I found the other place for $91. I may buy the oil and do it ourselves moving forward.

Your son sounds like an honorable and good person!

It's a shame that the honest mechanic and auto shops don't make as much money as the dishonest ones...

Dealer, No Way !! my local dealer wants $130 or more plus tax for full synthetic oil change.
You can't trust them, for anything either !
Some drive thru places are just fine, just make sure they can prove they're using quality oil and don't buy into any shit that you now need this or that.. oil changed and thats it !

Another local drive thru place, but which is really good quality and professional, charged me $120 including taxes... but another place I found only cost me $91 plus tax for the same full synthetic and they open the oil bottles there, not an oil tank which you don't know what's in there.

just google a few of them and check their reviews and pick a place that opens the oil there.
There's so many oil brands and too long to get into here.

the stingers min. requirement for oil is actually just regular oil 5w 30, but many go with full synthetic.

Are you in Canada or U.S. ?

I have a 4 month old 1.5 Evo and servicing is every 2 years - I have heard it is best to change oil every year.
Is this advice correct?

I will do around 10,000 miles per year.

The old guideline I'd always heard (from the days of 3000 mile oil changes) was that if you weren't reaching the recommended mileage for oil changes you should do it at least every 6 months.

I believe the Stinger recommends at least every 12 months, if you aren't hitting the 6000 mile oil change interval more frequently. If you're doing 10,000 miles per year, go by mileage.

Just going through the Haynes manual and while Ford say yearly oil changes Haynes is recommending 6 monthly oil/filter changes? That sounds crazy soon. Does anyone do 6 month changes or just the normal yearly?

I change it every 3k miles, which is every month.

annually is the guideline these days if you aren't hitting mileage. Even a year is conservative, but 6 months is a total waste of time and money if you aren't hitting mileage.
The fact that these cars all have countdown timers based on both factors is pretty solid proof that a year is fine. Manufacturers always lean towards a more conservative position because why accept any more liability than they need to?
