I was just wondering, if the occ are so important to avoid the build up on the gdi engines, how come kia did not build the engines with them on it from the factory since they are pretty inespensive?

It seems to be an eternally debated topic as to whether they are effective at preventing build up. It's easy to prove that they are "capturing" contaminants, but not so easy to prove that they are capturing enough to prevent problems.

Anyhow, regardless of how effective they are, it is hard to imagine how they could specify a service interval for it. It's difficult enough to get some drivers to keep up with oil changes, and in some cases even if they did, that can be too long to check/service a catch can.

It becomes a losing proposition for the brand and the dealers: tell drivers to come in every few months and they get turned off, or let them wait for the typical 12 month service intervals and end up with who knows what catastrophes from customers who have more blow-by or use third party service providers that don't know to check/empty the can resulting in a full-to-the-brim can.

Some manufacturers have started to include air-oil separators that drain captured oil back into the sump. It would be interesting to know how the cost/benefit analysis for that works.

It is so worth it. You install it if you plan on keeping the car for a long time. Manufacturers don’t install it because it adds extra maintenance for the consumers.

Oil Catch Cans are definitely worth it.

I am not 100% why Kia chose not to install these from the factory.

Like others have explained, it seems possible it would be too much of a "hassle" for the average consumer.

We have a few different options of Oil Catch Cans for your Kia Stinger at the K8 Stinger Store (CLICK HERE FOR INFO).

I have the Mishimoto and I can tell you it definitely captures stuff. I cant really quantify how much benefit it will be for you though. I think the catch can is important to keep the car running cleaner especially if you plan on increasing boost at all. Helps avoid buildup on the intake valves.
