Read that you should measure your tire pressure with cold tires. True? After my normal, relaxed commute to work (25 miles) ... my tire pressure (according to the Stinger display) goes up about 5 PSI. Riding on the stock Michelin P4 summer sport tires at a nice 70 degrees weather temp. Thoughts?

That is true. Set your tire pressure when the tires are 'cold'. The sticker on the door is recommended cold pressure. Going up a few degrees is normal as the tires warm up.

Thoughts?

Driving equals friction between the road and your tires equals heat equals…you guessed it…an increase in tire pressure.
For this reason, regardless of the weather, your air pressure can increase about 5 PSI in the first half-hour of driving before stabilizing.
In the sweltering heat of summer asphalt at high speeds for long stretches, that number can rise, and not for the better.

Thanks for the replies ... could have googled it ... but not as fun as reading this forum!!! Learning every day!

Pressure rises and falls with temps. This is why everyone who owns cars with TPMS get so annoyed in the winter, when virtually every car has warning lights on telling them their pressure is low.

Never had a TPMS light up in winter with any car I had, and we often get -30C (-22F) where I live, in winter. o_O

The TPMS on my Civic goes crazy when I Switch from 19" summer to 16" winter tires. I have to recallibrate it and than it's all good again

Every car I've ever had with TPMS loses it's mind in the winter time.

At -22 degrees the air in the tire is probably ice!

You must live in the North Pole.

Quebec city actually, maybe it has to do with the TPMS calibration, I have 2 sets of wheels and tires each with their own TPMS :ninja:

Be aware that if one side of the car has the sun shining on it, those tires should read higher as well. Cold means cold, sure, but also equal temps of all four tires.
