So whats the procedure you used ? TC off ? Hold break & press gas to what rpm? Im thinking of doing this method of no LC launch at the track because its way to easy to mess up the 4 second LC window during bracket race nights.

It was just test and tune I don’t bracket race anyway they wouldn’t let me in the groove because they had preped for drag radials but I just held the brake and pressed the gas enough to tighten the slack out of drive train

Don't do that! If you arn't going to lc use auto hold. The barak kills so much power you are better off just nailing it. AH is only. .04 slower than LC.
Also if you wait for the first yellow you will only be in LC for less than 1.5 seconds, closer to 1 second if you go on the third yellow.

As bob states, you can wait until the amber sequence starts to nail the throttle (I look for staged lights on both sides). You can probably release the brake as soon as the third amber lights - unless you actually have awesome reactions, but the .5s delay to green is pretty short and you have about a foot before ET timer is tripped.

I've not hit a drag strip yet, but am this coming weekend. How long do we have in LC before it cancels itself? Are folks starting LC as soon as they both cars get staged and having plenty of time?

Not sure what you mean by "in LC"..

To be able to use launch control, you have to be in "ESC Off state 2" (traction and stability control off) and Sport driving mode, but there is no "launch control mode" per se. There is no time limit on that, although restarting the vehicle will reset (turn on) ESC functions.

You have 4 seconds from the time you apply full throttle, otherwise it will cancel and RPMs drop to idle (even with accelerator still depressed).

So if you're asking when people disable traction and stability control, I'd guess while approaching the lanes, or while waiting in line.

If you're asking when people get ready to launch, i.e. full throttle with brake applied, well that was covered above - when both vehicles are staged (two rows of blue lights on both sides) or the instant the amber sequence begins. I go with staging, and launch just after the third amber.

At least, I *try* to do that. I've forgotten sport mode or fumbled disabling ESC more than once. I have a neatly printed laminated checklist (size of a business card) now. Looking forward to first Sunday racing starting in September!

Thanks! I was considering "LC mode" to start when you floored the throttle with your foot on the brake. I just don't have a good place to "practice" this. LOL

Four seconds is your answer, then. That's when "Launch control ready" comes up on the dash.

A good place to practice is freeway on-ramps in light traffic. I used to pull into the emergency lane after turning onto the on-ramp, wait for any traffic that may be ahead to clear, then launch.

Takes some restraint (maturity? ) to back off before joining the travel lanes, but you never know whether there might be a LEO coming up behind you..

My mistake. It's .5s, just as the timing of the ambers. The .4s is for the "pro" tree.
