Welcome!

Right, but maybe if you get a tune on the Stinger, you can close the gap a bit?
I was saying my Stinger was quicker. Dont worry she's getting a new tune here shortly.

Hi guys,

2022 GT1 AWD owner for two weeks now. The Stinger replaced a 2019 Dodge Challenger (5.7 HEMI). HP and torque figures are almost the same for these two cars, the two main differences being the turbo vs. naturally aspirated and the AWD vs. RWD. The difference is significant, the Stinger can actually put down its torque and not just spin the wheels like a rookie... :) There is a good 10k MSRP difference, yet the insurance went down with the Stinger, all good things. The Challenger was fun but it was a gas guzzler too (I had 11MPG avg).

P.S wife also likes the four doors vs. 2doors. Last pic together.

Congrats! I was considering the Challenger's sister car (the Charger) when shopping for the Stinger.

How do you feel the handling compares between the Stinger and your Challenger?

I would say the Stinger is way better in all aspects:
- it sits a bit lower than the Challenger, for me that's a positive
- in curves, the Challenger was not as solid as the Stinger, yet the ride was still harsher (e.g over bumps)
- the Challenger was real fun between June and September here in Michigan, rain, snow or even just cold weather and the tires were slipping like crazy
- the V8 growl is great, except when you need to drive 5hours straight and there is no "mute" button
- I had no safety system on the Challenger and the side mirrors are a joke, it was a body exercise to always move back and forth to cover the huge blindspot; this was the biggest issue when driving on busy highways or merging

The tire slip was so bad that in a dry but cold (40-50F) weather, I could spin the wheels at 40MPH in 2nd gear with traction control enabled and this was "just" the 5.7, not the much more powerful 6.4L Scatpack. Roundabouts were outright dangerous during cold weather, I had to exit a roundabout with just inertia, because I slipped once at 10MPH with just a touch of throttle. The Stinger feels like it has a shop vac underneath, I can "race" through roundabouts.

I already drove the Stinger in moderate rain, I was amazed by the fact that I did not need to be cautious at all compared to the Challenger. We'll see about the snow and cold weather in a couple of months...

What tires did your Stinger come with? there seems to be some regional variations

Michelin Primacy Tour - all season tires.

Thanks for the write up! Yeah I've constantly read that Dodge put wwaaaaaayyyy too skinny tires on the Challenger/Charger RT and (non-wide body) Scat Pack. I'm in a climate that sees snow as well, so I also wanted something with AWD. Plus I really don't see any RWD Stingers for sale on my region. You can maybe snag a used one, but otherwise they are all AWD.

I came from a V6 Camaro, so I certainly understand the blind spot frustration, hahaha. That car had less power than the Charger/Challenger RT on paper, but in performance specs it was very close. It got good gas mileage for a performance/sports care and even took 87 gas. The handling was better when you were pushing it (versus the Stinger), but in normal driving you really didn't notice much difference. The Stinger is about 500lbs heavier but really hides its weight well. I do miss the exhaust sound from the Camaro. The Stinger exhaust is way too quiet for me!

Agreed, the exhaust is not very impressive. The Challenger was my daily driver though, it was not practical to seat more than one person, the sedan like trunk was ok but it does not compare with the capabilities of the hatch. It made sense now that our family is growing ;)
