Hi Guys

Got my new all Black Stinger this Friday and love it!
Because it's currently very dusty and I drove around a lot I decided to clean my car today on the Car Wash.

I noticed I heard a "thuck" sound while the machine was cleaning the Car. But after I couldnt notice anything and though it was from the machine itself
Now after driving around again a bit I saw that a little bit of Paint on the rear came off by the Kia Badge. I thought it was just some dirt and grabbed my cleaning stuff.
After spraying it the Emblem bulged a bit and in a circle around I could take of the Paint with my microcloth.

The rear Logo now also sits very loose and you can pry it up on both sides. Under it you can see that the paint was torn away by the glue.
Has anybody else had this happen?

Welcome to the forum.

I have never seen or heard of such a thing on a Stinger. That almost looks like a chemical reaction between the glue in the 3M tape and the paint itself. (By the way, that cannot be a 2022 model year badge; Kia ditched the round oval for the new logo.)

All the more reason to hand wash your Stinger. Or at least go to a touch less car wash. I can’t believe that brushes moving along the surface of your car don’t leave micro scratches all over it. My $.02. And I totally concur with Merlin the Mad, Kia changed the logo for 2022. Further, if you have an oval Kia badge on the rear, it’s a 2019 or earlier model year. In 2020 the oval Kia badge was replaced on the rear center by the large script, chrome Stinger logo.

I'm going to guess that this vehicle had the hatch panel repainted/replaced for some undisclosed reason: the paint adhesion is poor, thus the 3M tape pulling the paint up, thus the badge can literally be pulled off with finger tips at this point, leaving the bare plastic beneath and for some variable distance beyond the edges (as seen in the pics).

(edit to add: being Switzerland/Europe, it is possible that brand new '22 Stingers there still come with the KIA oval in the rear? If this really is a brand new car, then that hatch panel, at the very least, indicates a poor paint adhesion issue straight from the factory: a very rare occurrence and covered under warranty.)

One possibility that comes to mind is that someone had debadged/rebadged the car and tried to reuse the oem KIA badge with DIY adhesive.

Edit: ...or someone debadged the car and tried to apply a new OEM (or OEM style badge) but didn't prepare the surface first

Either way, I agree the adhesion should be better. An automatic car wash shouldn't be able to do that kind of damage. It's not without its hazards, but that's another discussion.

We sadly still get the old Kia Logo in Switzerland with the 2022 Model. Wish we had the new ones

Thanks for the Answers. It's a brand new car from the Dealership and has only been driven 623 Km so far. Everything is brand new on the car.

Didnt know it is a very rare occurence. I will try to talk to the Dealer to cover it by warranty.

Yeah, paint coming off in the carwash is definitely a rare occurrence, unless you are in a sunburst yellow!

I have a 2022 Micro Blue and have had problems with paint from day one plus the dark chrome trim has completely discolored. I have made numerous attempts to get it resolved and KIA will not even respond anymore. My next step is either to put it on the news or contact a warranty attorney. It’s way under warranty still and was already having issues before my tags arrived…. They have done nothing but waste my valuable time.
