Please read me! TL/DR? Go all the way to the bottom

Interested in a remote start with smartphone capability you could install yourself and save a bunch of money? Read on...you’ll be glad you did.

Hey friends,

I’m working with N2 Designs (in my opinion the best remote start company to work with) on getting pricing and options for a remote start system. They normally have a plug and play system where just about anyone is skilled enough to install it but right now it’s in the beta development stage. What this means is they are going to be sending me a kit for me to install, check functionality, and I will doing an install video with a friend to make sure ANYone could do this with just a few cheap tools from harbor freight. I estimate the cost in a group buy for these to be around $400 with smartphone module or if you just want to have a regular remote start, it will likely be between $200 and $250. I had this kit on my Tacoma and it was amazing! Engine start, stop, lock, unlock, and even battery life status with live updates any time. I even validated the readings on my phone with a multimeter and it was .1 volts off. The annual fee for the smartphone module is typically $40.

If this interests you, please reply and let me know so I know to send you more details as they become available. It’s my mission to get this out there to all Stinger folks and save our community a bit of money. Plus, you know the quality of your work. Being able to install mods yourself not only gives you a greater sense of pride in your vehicle, but also a sense of accomplishment.

TL/DR:

Here’s a option to save money, install your own remote start with smartphone control capabilities and ensure it’s done right by you the first time. This will be far less complicated than the K8SS Canbus Control Module. Not knocking it. It’s cool, but most of us don’t need and will never use all of those controls.

If it is at least as good as DroneMobile, or will at least integrate with DroneMobile, I'll buy a Stinger and your remote start kit. :)

I like the idea of the K8SS, but it's the lack of smartphone integration that turns me off. I want all of its functionality plus integration with a vehicle tracking and smartphone control app.

Hmm, this is a dealbreaker:

Do not purchase this product and our RF (Long Range fob kit add-option) at the same time, you can only use one or the other, meaning purchasing this smart phone option add on to your remote starter purchase is ok, but purchasing this product AND a long range RF fob kit) will not work; its one or the other. Furthermore, if you would like to add this to your remote start kit AND already have an RF (long range) fob kit, you will need to permanently disconnect the long range RF fob kit to be able to add this smart phone module option add on OR add a 2 position non-momentary/latched-type rocker/selector switch (to act as a kill switch for one, while powering up the other). Example use for this scenario is for those that camp or overland frequently in very rural campsites in which phone service is non-existent, but the RF signal would work up to a half mile away, but then live in populated areas/city where cellular reception is abundant.

Here’s my thing though...why would you need a long range transmitter AND the smartphone module? I’ve not been in a situation where I couldn’t utilize the smart phone module. BUT I’m not in a secluded area with a week signal. I mean you could still buy the remote start and use a long range transmitter OR smartphone but yeah it’s impossible to have both. It sucks but in this case you can’t have your cake and eat it too.

You just arrived at the answer without realizing it; you do not live in a secluded area with a "week"[SIC] signal, so you projected your situation on others and concluded no one faces that scenario, but that scenario exists all over the place in Maine and New Hampshire, and significant portions of western MA, and through many sections along I-84 in NY, PA, etc. where there is no cellphone coverage at all.

I will tell you I loved this remote start on my Tacoma. The smartphone module is a must unless you’re always in a climate that never changes weather and is constantly like 70-75 degrees haha.

fair enough, I would say this. You could just buy the remote start module and the smartphone module and in times you’re not always with good cell service, you can at least still use the remote start. I realize this product won’t be for everyone but it will satisfy a lot of folks needs. I would also say that even just having a remote start module without the smartphone capability and just going with a long range transmitter in secluded weak not “week” areas (thank you for catching my poor grammar btw lol) would still be a great option over no remote start at all. This will be just as good as drone mobile and idk if drone mobile has it but the smart phone module will also allow you to open the trunk from your smartphone too if it’s on the key fob which it is. Just some of my additional thoughts I wanted to put out there. I want you to know I apologize for genealizing or giving you the misunderstanding that this is the answer for EVERYONE on planet earth but as a hunter in Idaho, in some very remote spots, this still worked incredibly well and consistently so take my word for what it’s worth to you. You don’t know me but this isn’t my primary job in fact I’m also not doing this to make money. I’m trying to do something cool for the community. I will make little money off each sale but it would take at least 30 sales just for me to make a grand.
