Hi all,

I'm poking around here looking for info and advice as I ponder buying a Stinger. Man, this is a busy place. There's a lot to absorb.

I drive a GTI currently, and love it. I was waiting for the Mk8 Golf R, but I don't think the Mk8 platform is for me from what I know. I also want a little more room. I'm looking at Jetta GLI for that, but my brother has had his Stinger for a year now and loves it. More to the point, before he retired early he drove Jag XF supercharged and, most recently, an Audi S7. When his S7 lease was up, he surprised himself and chose Stinger--and really, really likes it. He acknowledges it's not up to the Audi level of materials and thought, but at that level being down a notch is still pretty high on the food chain.

So, y'all are filling my head with a bunch of stuff. Like I said, it's a lot to absorb. Thanks for having me here. And if you're wondering where my head is right now--it's stuck on the dealership experience. I don't know that it would be crappy, but the odds are overwhelming that it won't be anywhere near as good as my VW experience has been over the last 3 years, and for some reason that bothers me...

I moved from a 2017 GTI SE to my Stinger and have absolutely no regrets. My Kia dealer has been pretty good overall, not necessarily as good as my last VW dealer but I also dealt with a couple of terrible VW dealers before them. So just like every manufacturer there seems to be good and bad dealers. I cross shopped the Stinger with the R and the Stinger had just a few more things I wanted that the R doesn't. And frankly, I'm not a fan of the new styling for the R so it may be a while before I go back, if ever.

Anyways, welcome to the forum!

sigh...you may have given me a task for the weekend--go look at one and see if I can get a drive.

I have to say, it sure seems as if my 2017 GTI Autobahn (and the 2018 S I bought a year ago, used, for my daughter) are well built and reliable. The community seems to agree. In some ways, I'd hate to give it up. But the Stinger sure looks like a similar unicorn in its own way.

And if I can find a 2021 in gray with red leather...

VW's are well built cars, the Stinger doesn't feel any less well built to me. But you should see what you think for yourself. Some people have complained of rattles from things like the sunroof, but I've had zero issues with mine as far as build quality goes.

That was my first choice for a color combo too, really good looking.

Shop the dealers around you. Many horror stories but many good ones as well.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Welcome to the hive! Lots of good and bad dealers out there for all makes, so find one you want to give your money to, and check out the dealer forum for suggestions

The stinger is superior to any golf also personally will never buy any VW any more after their corrupt criminal fuel scandal.

Eh. There are two kinds of big corporations in the world: those that have been caught doing egregiously illegal things, and those who haven't yet been caught.

As for the Stinger being superior to "any Golf," that remains to be seen. That's my point in being here.

RWD biased, AWD optional, torque out the wazoo starting at 1.3K RPM; style; practicality. If you take that test drive you are risking a "fatal attraction". :D:P (you are not new here, I notice, but welcome all the same  )

Yeah agreed everyone cheats but the extent of cheating and corrupting and lying the VW did is beyond imagination.

beyond imagination

maybe I'm jaded, but I've worked in big corp long enough to have seen plenty of things--successful things--that one might think are "beyond imagination". That they did this thing, is absolutely no surprise to me.

Steve Lehto talks about a similar environment at GM. Look up the "GM nod".

I came from a 2016 GTI S. The power of the stinger is amazing, especially after adding the JB4. I do miss the stick shift, and that hot hatch racy feeling for sure, but otherwise there's no comparison. My son now drives the GTI and has modded the hell out of it. it's even more amazing than it was. it's really two totally different animals. Luxury features, size, power, torque, rear wheel drive. Stinger is amazing too. i wish I could personally have two cars, because I would get a golf R too!

Sure but to go and specifically invest money, sweat and engineering to create a device to cheat? Which lead to thousands dead due to the pollution according to a study... That is beyond just cover up and corruption that is brutally criminal, VW= criminal trash company. Will never ever buy any VW product again.
