Greetings, all. Current Touareg TDI owner here, anxiously awaiting my final settlement so I can put the Dieselgate fiasco behind me once and for all. My wife's 2012 Q5 and my 2014 Touareg were two of the best, most reliable vehicles we've ever owned, but I will no longer put up with VW's lack of corporate morality no matter how much I like their products. The Q5 has already been replaced with a GLC300, and I have been planning and test-driving for the Touareg's replacement for months.
I need a fair amount of cargo space for my business, and I'm not sure if I can make the Stinger work. But I'm going to take a long, hard look at it. The Arteon appears to be large enough, but I won't be going there for obvious reasons. The Regal TourX might be ideal if they offered it with the V6, but I'm not terribly excited about the base turbo 4-cylinder. The Regal GS Sportback appears to have a larger cargo area than the Stinger, but it just doesn't offer the same appeal. The V90 is absolutely gorgeous, and it's plenty large for my needs, but I struggle to see the value there. I don't care how potent Volvo's twin-charged 4-cylinder is, the feel and sounds are not fitting for a $70k luxury car. I also lament the lack of hard controls for basic audio and HVAC functions.
If none of the sportback/hatchback options will satisfy my cargo-hauling needs, I will be forced to go the CUV/SUV route. I like the MDX Sport Hybrid, which handles better than any 3-row crossover has a right to, but I don't care for the dowdy styling, and I despise Acura's bizarre 2-screen infotainment system and wonky shifter layout. I am also pretty excited about the production version of the Genesis GV80, which should share a lot of the Stinger's impressive mechanicals. But there is no firm word on a release date, and I might not be able to wait. If I had to make a decision today, I'd go with the Edge Sport or MKX 2.7T. They're a little thirsty, but they are both compelling packages.
If only there were a Stinger wagon ...
