I discovered this crack on my steering wheel:

This is the part:

Trying to get factory rep to cover it under warranty, initial push back from dealer, saying this doesn't happen with some external force. Well, I said it happened this time. I don't think tapping my fingers on the steering wheel would do that and I don't have road rage! We'll see what KIA does.

that wouldn't crack on its own... something had to hit it. that plastic is insanely strong right there

What could have hit it? Not exactly in a vulnerable place. Maybe damaged during installation and the crack developed over time?

that would be my guess... just got worse over time. they should cover that one though. at least I hope so. nothing falling would crack that outside of a hammer

Just heard back from the dealer: He authorized us to replace it as a one time goodwill repair as a cracked trim piece is not a manufacturer defect.
Good enough for me.

Not a defect? Hah. That is the weirdest thing I have seen in days on weeks on months on years. I once broke a '62 Chevy steering wheel with my face; snapped it right down horizontal at the nine o'clock and three o'clock points (my mouth didn't fare well but a whole lot better than the steering wheel). That crack in yours defies explanation without a lot more information.

................c'mon ! you were shagging in the car again right ? a couple of creative maneuvers and ................ooops !!:whistle::whistle::whistle::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Good. They should replace. No way YOU did it. I'm saying something cracked it inside and just now shows.
