Thinking of getting a base, probably 2.5L or maybe a 2L at a discount Stinger RWD.
I never owned a RWD or rear biased car, mostly FWD sedans and I think I want one. Currently, I drive a Mazda CX-5 AWD, mostly because it was a compromise to get a good handling car that can get me to ski resorts without chains (CA rules) at a decent price and good fuel economy. My preferred vehicle is a good handling wagon, which is reliable, efficient and at a reasonable price (they don't exist in the US!), but the Stinger comes close.
Yes, the 3.3 is nice, but I don't want to sink so much money into cars and also don't like the fuel economy. Probably 300HP is already more than enough.
If so, I'd probably get the bare base RWD, perhaps in white. For snow trips, I'd get an AWD Subaru and let my wife drive it.
Mods? Not me. At most, I'll change the tires.

What I don't know is how reliable is it and what fuel economy to expect with the 2.5L?

Hello. Typically increased displacement means increased fuel usage, all other things equal. The Stinger is a fun car, but that will also impact your mileage per gallon as well. But the 2.5? It's new in the Stinger, and the Stinger is a relatively heavy car by my standards.

I think the Stinger is more focused towards road courses and cruising. My requirements for my next car were completely different than yours, which is why I ended up in a Stinger!

Welcome to the hive

Howdy. I've read several times that the 2.5L gets the same gas mileage as the 2.0L. Count me skeptical. But I think they're talking about optimum conditions, and resolve to stretch MPG as much as possible. So, if they're true, then the 2.5L hands down will be the best of both worlds: decent power and economy. (By the way, there is no "base", just GT-Line.)

IF you are dead set on RWD, make sure you get one that has the LSD unit. My 2018 doesn't and it is honestly the one thing I find most disheartening about the driving experience.
Also, welcome!

We do something similar with vehicles. My GF drives a CX5 AWD 2.5T, which is our moderate 'off road' and bad weather vehicle. I've mostly had sedans since we've been together (many years and vehicles).

Driving wise, there's not a ton of advantage in daily driving having AWD v RWD. For fun, RWD wins and is a bit more predictable, IMO. AWD provides accelerating confidence and solid launches. There's mods, but nothing on the cheaper end that will get you 365hp/373lbft ;) . I see 26-28 highway on cruise with the 3.3TT, expect 30-ish (maybe more) mpg from the 2.5T . I would have been fine with a 3.3TT RWD if there was one on the lot reasonably priced, had to work with the stock that was available at time of purchase.

I park on gravel, so that's where the AWD wins for me. Lately I've been having to park in the alley and I have to backup over a small gravely hill and I've been very glad for the extra set of wheels.

To be honest, the 2.5 in the Stinger is new for 22 MY so numbers reflecting MPG are not out yet(in US) in the "real world". May want to look at some of the existing vehicles that also use the 2.5 for a reference.

I have had mine for 2 yrs(purchased new - 2.0) and I think it is a pretty reliable vehicle. My MPG is roughly 25'ish including some "spirited" driving. With this engine, 30 is not uncommon. This is my first Kia so I can only give you 2yrs ownership experience. I would definitely buy another one and plan to unless Mr. "Supra" has something to say.....

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. I’m glad you found us! You’ve come to the right place to learn about the Stinger. :)

AWD in the Stinger is different than other AWD systems since it is variable based on the drive mode. With traction control off and sport mode on, the rear wheels are biased and you can get the tail out a bit on turns. It is not as boring as some other AWD cars. It sounds like you aren't buying this car to drift in so it might be worth a test drive at least.
