Hello,
My names Will, I own a 2018 Kia Stinger GT2 and so far I've swapped out the center caps on the wheels and hoping to change out the back kia badge. I've previouslly owned numerous performance cars and I was a protuner for IPS Motorsports before they faded out of existance. I also have some history with car hacking including placing twice at defcon chv and some CVE's around Hyundai's Bluelink system.

I'm a huge nerd who loves cars,

I'm really excited about this car but in full transparency I'm having some issues with mine and I'm going to be dropping her off at the dealer next week. I'm crossing my fingers my loaner car isnt garbage.......

Future Plans
Comma.AI (Self Driving level2)
Intake... sitting in the box but with the trans not shifting right ill wait to install it
Tune someday??? Once I'm sure the cars not gonna grenande .

My Current Fleet
2017 Kia Sedona SXL
2018 Kia Stinger GT2 (Black)

G’day, welcome to the forum & Stinger Owners Fraternity, enjoy your new ride & have fun researching & modding it.

Howdy. What sort of issues?

Really hard downshifts from 3 to 2 when coming to stop and it's gotten worse

When not warmed up? Always? "Worse" as in harder and harder slams from 3rd to 2nd?

There have been maybe two trans shifting cases mentioned that I have run into on the Stinger Forum. So they exist. But they are super rare. But, a hit is a hit, if you're the one. Warranty completely covered the other trans failures and it will yours if it is going out.

You said "issues". What else?

Hatch rattles randomly. The alignment is off... As for trans it does it no matter what and in the past week it has gotten worse. In taking her in next week.

Alignment isn't an "issue" per se. It is a mechanical adjustment. I don't know where you live. But a new hatch rattle could be from sustained, colder temperatures. I'd try some of those lubricant suggestions that others have offered, before fiddling with spacers and shims and TSB "fixes", that could easily make it worse: silicone or other lubes can't make anything worse and might cure what you hear, or reduce it enough to make it acceptable, etc.

And the trans definitely sounds like a real concern. Unless it feels like something is going to bust, I'd live with a hard shift between 3rd and 2nd, if that's all you're noticing that seems "off". But definitely bring it up and take a service tech for a ride, even let him drive it, and see for himself what you are talking about.

Since I have plans to mod the car I want all things fixed before I modify it I will not live with this shift because I'm in stop-and-go traffic and the temperature in California isn't cold so I don't know what's going on with it I can tell you it's not right

Ask to drive a demo with a technician to see if it's "normal." Also, make sure you use the same drive "mode" setting because the computer could make some shift changes.

I understand trust me it isn't normal and mode don't matter.

Have to agree... Never felt a hard downshift on slowing... Regardless of mode. Something might be off there or in the rear end.

I agree with the alignment thing... Pretty common to see even from the factory... They should be able to adjust that easily.

It must have gotten really, really bad, for you to have to wait with her in the shop for a new trans.
