Im a newb to all of this, the JB4 itself, logging, all of it so as to avoid any confusion I will simply give you a timeline of what i've done and what i've noticed since installing the JB4 Thursday night up until tonight including when i first got the check engine light/code and what i've noticed since they started popping up...

Thursday night- Installed the JB4 but tapped into the PNP fuel wire adapters not OEM fuel wires... I finished late so i let the car sit overnight with the keys on the other side of the house.

Yesterday morning - I started the car for the first time since installing and connected to the app for the first time. I made the following adjustments in the app...

Settings -> JB4 Tuning/App Configs -> WMI -> under "External Output" section... Can't remember what they were defaulted to but this is what i changed them too...

Enabled: 2 (from my understanding, you can change this whenever you want. It's just the wiper mode allowing you to switch maps with your intermittent wiper speed switch).
Min RPM: 0
Max RPM: 1

Min Advance: 2.0
Min AFR: 0

Yesterday from 10am to ~5:30pm - I drove an estimated 30-40 miles stopping maybe 3-4 times. Each time shutting the car off, letting it sit for at least an hour or two before coming back, starting the car, and leaving for my next destination. Throughout the entire day no check engine lights, no error codes, nothing.

Yesterday ~ 6:30pm - Started my car to head home for the night.... boom. check engine light. I immediately connected to the app. Hit read codes and "P0050" popped up. I immediately started logging as i drove home. NOTE: Up until this point i had not done any significant pulls, 0-60's, etc. I simply drove the car as i normally would, not exceeding 100 on the highway and switching through maps 0-2 to get used to the app, logging, etc.

Yesterday ~7pm - Got home. parked my car and immediately sent every log i had up to that point to a burger tuning support rep named A*** letting him know about the check engine light and code.

Initially he asked if the light and code still popped up while in map 0. The answer was and still is yes. It's still happening, in all maps (0, 1, & 2).

He then provided the following instructions in an email reply... "Almost impossible to diagnose without fault code. Press start engine button 3 times while not touching the brake pedal. In the JB4 app just press delete codes. Then do a full throttle data log on the 3rd gear from 2500rm to redline."

I did as he asked. Since he never mentioned which map to log, i did the same run logging maps 0, 1, and 2. I shot the pdf over to him but he hasn't responded to me since and it's driving me absolutely nuts. Therefore, i am hoping one of you can help me... PLEASE!!!

This is my daily driver so i had to continue driving it today and not sure if it was causing any additional harm but i ran maps 1 and 2 a few more times. Thinking back i probably should keep it on map 0 until i figure this out but who can blame me when I installed the thing a day ago.

I would really like to get this resolved asap because not only is it killing me seeing a check engine light but on Tuesday i plan on getting the following mods installed and would REALLY like to get this thing figured out in case something else pops up. i'd hate to add any more confusion to the mix...

1 - Wagner IC w/ charge pipe & air ducts
2 - Ultimate Performance HFC downpipe & midpipe combo
3 - HKS 45iL plugs (gapped at ~0.023 - 0.024)

I have the following mods currently installed and FYI - i fill my tank with 93 octane every single time...

1 - AEM CAI
2 - MBRP catback
3 - Denso IKH24 plugs - I made the mistake of not gapping them myself but i asked the service manager at my kia dealership to gap them at 0.022. He owns a stinger as well so im assuming he listened and did as i asked.
4 - BMS OCC (not sure if that matters).

Here is what i've learned so far, what i've noticed since getting the check engine light/P0050 and what i've been able to find out about code:

#1
- When googling the code it states: "This code is found when the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected an issue with the heater control circuit for the bank 2, sensor 1 oxygen sensor. The heater circuit is used by the ECM to heat the oxygen sensor to proper operating temperature for an accurate reading." As i mentioned, I also installed the PNP Fuel Wire Adapters. Could i have possibly done something incorrectly when tapping into them? I tapped into the red wire on each adapter so i didn't mess that up however I feel i may have tightened the tap a little too hard on the PNP adapter side. Is that possible?

#2 - I put heat shrink around the wires on the JB4 side and posi tap itself. Could i have applied too much heat causing damage to the wires?

#3 - I'm assuming the instructions he gave me, specifically the 3 button taps, and delete code is how you clear a code because immediately after doing so, i turn the car on and the check engine light is gone. I've done it multiple times and every time i do it, no check engine light.

#3 - The check engine light continues to light up every time i start my car and does not shut off unless i do the triple tap trick. However there were a few times where the check engine light would be on but the app would not read the P0050 code or any code for that matter. i'd click "read codes" and nothing. I do the good ole triple tap trick and no more check engine light. Of course only until i stop somewhere, shut the car off, come back, turn the car back on. Then the light is back on. Every single time.

#4 - I'm not sure if he was trying to see if the light/code would pop up while i was logging because that is not the case. I can get rid of the code by doing his little trick, i've done it multiple times however when i shut the car off again to pump gas, run in the store, whatever it may be, i turn start the car again and the light comes back on. Every single time.

#5 - When the check engine light is on my drive modes do NOT work; comfort, sport, etc. none of them work. I shut the car off, do the triple tap trick that A*** instructed me to. Turn the car back on and of course the light is gone, and my drive modes work again.

WHAT THE KCUF is going on and how do i fix it?!?!

See attachment titles "Check Engine & P0050 code" for logs that i sent to Burger Rep A*** following his instructions... As i said, he never specified which map to run it in so i did it in maps 0, 1, and 2. Logged all 3. i hope. again, still a newb.

From what i can tell your logs throughout the course of a single trip are all combined into one document. A new document is made the next time you start your car and log a run. Maybe someone can confirm this as well?

See attachment titled "logs before and during P0050" for every log i made since first installing on Thursday. As i mentioned, never did any significant throttle pulls. just drove the car as i normally would.

Please, if anyone could help me i would really appreciate it. I am worried i am driving my car and causing more and more damage.

Thank you in advance!

To me it sounds like an installation issue. This thing is pnp no need to be fiddling with settings on the app at the hook up stage. And you have no idea what your plugs are gapped to. I can’t open your logs but if like you say they are just you driving around then they are useless. Set your JB4 to auto log at 75-80% throttle. You should clear the cel in the app take everything off and see how she runs stock under a wot run. If good start over with your JB4 install, check every plug and gap to .022. Pretty much every time we see a story like this it’s pilot error. Good luck.

I re-loaded the logs of me doing what the burger tuning rep said: hit the engine start button 3 times with out touching break then do a full throttle run starting at 3rd gear 2500rpm to redline.

What do you mean clear the cel in the app?

Also, I’m not sure how I could’ve f&*%ed up the install unless, does it matter in what order you plug the adapters in? because I did have to unplug them and plug them back in but that was all while the ODBII wire was unplugged. I didn’t plug that in until the last step.

Also, is there a certain way I should uninstall it? Any specific order in which I’m supposed to unplug everything?

How about uninstall the jb4 and run the car without it. Let's see if there will be codes after that.

Yeah im uninstallinig it right now to see. Is there any specific way to uninstall? Pretty much all im doing is locking the car tossing the keys on the other side of the house about 5-10 minutes and then unplugging everything in the reverse order that i installed them in. ODBII first, o2 sensors, rear sensor, front sensor on charge pipe. then im gunna turn it back on and see what the car does. Ill send and update in a few minutes.

Were you able to see the logs i re-attached? Billy couldn't see the first ones i attached im assuming because i attached them as PDF's. I reattched as a .csv doc. Let me know.

Uninstalled it and no lights or codes everything is as it should be

Yeah it must be your Jb4 unit. The unit itself it plug and play and no settings should be tinkered with.

Possible to have a defective jb4?

When I had the bike on left I got something called a fuel cut eliminator (Ivan's Fuel-Cut Eliminator for Yamaha FZ-1). This was before the days of being able to program this function into the ECU. One day I'm leaving for a ride but can't get the bike to warm up/idle right after cold starting.

I did my mods in stages, one mod at a time (mostly). I removed the fuel cut eliminator (bit of a hassle, involved taking the gas tank and air box off iirc). No more issue. Sent it back for repair. Got a new one back, put it up for sale immediately. Last thing I needed was bike failing to run 1000 miles from home. Needless to say, that mod did work right for about 3 weeks.

It did have a dynojet powercommander 3 too, which worked flawlessly.

I checked my plugs and they were gapped at f*cking 0.027!!!…

I’m dropping my car Tuesday to get a Wagner intercooler w/ charge pipe and air ducts and an ultimate performance downpipe midpipe combo. I was going to have hks 45iL plugs installed then but now that I have my plugs out I was thinking I’d save some money and just toss the hks in now but not sure if they’d be okay with the mods I have now (AEM CAI. MBRP catback, BMS occ and I run 93 octane. Would it be okay to put the HKS on or should I wait for the other mods to be insgealked and just throw the denso’s back in?

Also, I’m leaving my car overnight with the plugs out and battery undone. That won’t do anything to my car correct? Like cause any issues having the battery unplugged for that long and my coil packs/plugs laying out all night? I would think it’s okay but want to confirm before I call it a night or if it will cause issues I’ll throw the plugs back in now.

You are regapping the Denso’s before putting back in though. Right! The plugs gapped down should be fine until you are fully modded. I had my JB out for a couple weeks once and had no problems on gapped plugs.

oh yeah absolutely. i gapped them at 0.022 but i have the HKS gapped at 0.022-0.024 as well. I was thinking about putting those in now instead of putting the denso's back in instead of having the shop put the HKS in on Tuesday. I'd be killing two birds with one stone and saving money but installing the plugs myself. Just worried about having the HKS plugs in with the mods i currently have. you think ill be alright to install the HKS?

This why I do one mod at a time, I learned that lesson on my Volvo.

I would just put in the HKS now.

It won't mess anything up? or cause any additional issues, right? as long as they're gapped correctly? I am going to post a new thread to see if i can get a little more input. Just want to make sure im not going to f*ck anything up the day before i go to get a wagner intercooler, charge pipe, HFC downpipe and midpipe installed. I am going to re-install my JB4 at the same time i install the plugs however as i mentioned dont want to cause more issues.

This is the same thing happening to me. Did you figure out what was wrong?

OP wrote a bible but it sounds like he had an o2 fault from attaching the fuel wire to the wrong spot. Read your codes and use that to determine what is wrong.

I am getting the same code p0050 and I clear the code but it comes right back after I turn the car of. The car is pulling hard with the jb4 but worried I f&*%ed up my 02sensor.
