From what I understand, a navigation system is built in to the Stinger via the screen. I've seen a couple of comments about needing to get an SD card from the dealer to activate that. So a couple of questions:
1) Is the SD card part of the Stinger, or is it extra cost option?
2) What navigation system does it use (i.e. Garmin, TomTom, Magellan, etc.)?
3) Is that system subscription-based, or is it lifetime (the norm with Garmin these days)? How often is it updated?
4) I also have an Android phone (late model). There are two USB ports on the dash, one says for charging the other for USB connection to the car system. Does the non-charging USB port also charge your phone or supply power to the phone when plugged in (say for using the Google map function)? I would guess that both USB ports have power for the phone but the charge port just does not connect to the car.

Sorry to ask so many questions. My car is on order - mid March.

  1. The SD card comes with nav-equipped cars (actually in the owner's manual), and the dealer will install it during delivery.
  2. uncertain
  3. You have to pay for updates, whenever Kia releases them (www.kia-gpsmap.us).
  4. Your guess is correct.

Thanks, @ralzod. $150-190 is expensive after having my Garmin 760 with lifetime (4 times a year) updates for free. Probably use my cell phone and Google maps. I assume the updates are optional...
Not sure which cars are "nav equipped" but mine will have the Driver Assistance package in a GT1.

FWIW, I find the charging of both ports inadequate and purchased a converter for the lighter plug.

Thanks, @Kazz. Some devices like my Android phone have "quick charge" adapters that speed up charging times considerably. But other devices cannot handle the higher charge rate. I fried my Kindle after using the quick charge phone cord, so perhaps Kia is using the "normal" power output of the generic USB port to protect some devices and themselves from law suits. Good to know that the USB ports should be safe for all devices that use USB ports.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

It's definitely not a quick charger. And the tech to adjust charge based on device type has been out a while. I consider this a miss by Kia.
