Not too exciting, but minding my own business at stop light and WHAMMO! A 2001 Honda Accord "rams" into me. It could have been much worse from some of the clusters I see posted, but I guess a question I have is to what degree will the auto shop fix things? I have Allstate, so they have their "people". It seems the gas tank is dinged in and the left side exhaust is pushed extremely close to the left tire. Annnddd, it seems the left side exhaust tubbing is bent (not sure what it looked like before). You think maybe they'll just try a patch job or total fix? Maybe I should just total it, get a Nissan Leaf perhaps...

Sorry for your incident.

What excuse did the other drive give for hitting you?

You should be able to take your car to any body shop you want, not just the ones that all state recommends.

How is your neck and back. Did you get checked out by a doctor?

Thanks, no worries. With the things I see nowadays, I got off easy.

She didn't really say anything, she was shaking pretty bad and had the deer in the headlights thing. I figure she was on her phone.

I was thinking I could go anywhere, but our Allstate rep said to go through their network of peeps. She said it would be done quicker to go through my insurance, than going through State farm (the other drivers insurance).

I didn't see a doctor, I felt ok afterwards and today too. This accident was about 10ish days ago. On the bright side I got a 2021 4 door dodge truck to drive. I joke, I feel like I'm driving a bus after not driving a truck in many years.

gas tank should be fine as that is in front of the rear axles... looks like it's the spare tire well that's dented in..

@vipeboy2000 , ahhh yes! For some reason I was fixated on it being the gas tank. Don't know why.

well, tbf, it looks like a tank of some sort :) some vehicles do have it back there like my parent's old dodge vans..

Yes, that...a tank of some sort. So I was close! :D

Crap that is horrible. Hope you get it fixed up right and quickly.

That will buff out. If going through insurance shops, they may have better parts and repair warranty. All the repairs should be inspected and if they don't meet your standards then you have the right to complain. not so much if you go with an out-of-system shop. That doesn't mean the in-system shops are good, my bumper had paint peeling off, and the sides were coming off. Replaced and repaired under the warranty. oh, and since I had aftermarket coverage they paid me 1600 for a new carbon fiber hood.

That really sucks - make SURE the other driver compensates you for diminished value on that.

That sucks. Doesn't look like minor fender bender to me. $5k in damages, easy!

Yeah... a little buffing should cover it. :) The plan is to stick with one of the network peeps. At first I was going through my insurance company as they said it would be quicker. Turns out that it's not. So I'm going with the other drivers insurance. I met with one of the collision places yesterday and the guy said the parts are hard to come by right now and that I shouldn't expect this to be done soon. It looks like the floor (that I mistook for the gas tank :D) needs to be replaced or at least that's what the guy said. He wouldn't be sure until he took things a part. So now I'm in a Nissan Kicks... such a fun car to drive! <<< Not so much. Oh well, I needed to calm my jets driving the awesomeness that is my Stinger. I shall appreciate her more when I get her back in 2023. Gifts, I shall buy her gifts!!

I guess by minor I meant that it wasn't crushed beyond repair (I love my specific car, it has my azz groves in the seat just the way I like 'em). As I had the guy look at it yesterday he gave me an initial quote of about $2,000. BUT...he pretty much said what he gave me was worthless as he won't know the full extent until he takes things a part. I'm figuring at least $5,000 as well. It is what it is I suppose. I should be more upset, but no one was hurt and I've come to appreciate my blessings these days. :)

Yeah the battery bump in the back could be mistaken for a gas tank. Thankfully it's not and it's just aluminum. There is however a steel ring somewhere in the trunk. A mix of metals used in our cars. Since it may take a while make sure you get the depreciated value covered by the other insurance.

@General_Vodka

Yeah, for some reason I wasn't that concerned about that underneath backend part until the guy was very worried about it. Hopefully, while it won't be a quick swap, they'll be able to fix that ass up right.

Ahhhh, I didn't even think about that! I shall speak with them about the depreciated value. She's my baby, but she won't be as good as newly used or is it usedly new?

In any event, the ONLY thing that makes me relatively happy about this is that it wasn't my fault and it's the backend and not the front as well. I finally decided to give a decent amount of space between me and the folks in front of me.
