I have an older 5" driveluxe model from years back. It's mounted in the lower left corner of the windshield in portrait mode. It works adequately enough, but is getting harder to see.

They have a 8" model, drivesmart 86. Suggestions on how/where to mount this? I don't like things obscuring visibility too much. I don't think it would fit in the existing place, not enough width between the dash and door. The unit measures roughly 8"x5"x.75" - Garmin DriveSmart™ 86 | Car GPS . Please, no suggestions for using cell phone.

Is a portable Garmin better than the in-built TomTom Nav sistem on the Stinger? I'm pretty confused.

The biggest issue with the inbuilt nav is inability to create custom routes. Since ~2007 I've been using garmin gps and mapsource (or basecamp occasionally) to design each segment of a particular road trip route. Once designed, this gets uploaded to the garmin to follow.

Both the PC and garmin unit share identical map data so there's no discrepancy except for when map data may be out of date. All I ever hear (if sound wasn't muted) from the inbuilt nav is "recalculating....recalculating....recalculating....recalculating....".

Edit, by segment, I mean turn by turn customization.

The road less traveled.

I would look for a way to mount a stand on either side of the infotainment tablet. That is where I have my phone mounts in both Stingers. Really like it. Doesn't interfere with windshield shades, unlike suction cups mount on glass. And the positions are just about perfect for something I want to shift focus on and occasionally touch operate.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
