Fair warning, cover your children's eyes before reading any further.
So very early Sunday morning a crazy person busted out the windows of 25 vehicles in an overnight parking garage where I parked. My Stinger happened to be one of the vehicles hit extra hard. It appears the culprit tried to smash in the passenger side window, failed (as you can see in the attached picture), then proceeded to the smash the passenger side where he jumped in and emptied the center console and took a whooping 25 cents. He then smashed the rear window and ripped the cover off the strings to find nothing but car cleaner and a folding chair. The cops caught up to him, but somehow slipped away. Apparently they have a solid lead on who this low life is.
Figured I'd start this thread to share how the repair goes (and vent in the process). Geico immediately setup an appointment with Safelite to replace the glass, however since the vehicle is so new it will be at least 3-5 business days to receive the glass from the manufacture. I don't think the passenger side glass will be to bad, but I can't imagine the rear glass will be an easy job. Parts of the rubber around the glass were removed during glass cleanup and the defroster connections are just hanging there. At this point I can't seem to find any other damage outside of a minor knick in the rear center leather but will need to investigate further once the glass is installed.
Next project will be to install an alarm system with glass breakage sensors and phone alerts. I've been looking to install an aftermarket starter that works via an app as well, so hoping to find a complete package. Any recommendations would be appreciated!
Yes, that's a footprint
This is what the back window looked like after I removed all the loose glass so it wouldn't go flying back at other cars. I can't tell you the number of looks I got on the street (outside the normal looks when it's in one piece).
KIA secret bullet proof glass?
