Had ARK downpipes and MBRP exhaust installed, and using the factory tips. I’ve tried searching the forums but couldn’t find exactly the advice I was looking for.

Several places I’ve seen people recommend either aftermarket tips or using exhaust wrap to seal against the factory tips. I went under the car today with some exhaust wrap and couldn’t make it work. It seems to me the brackets for the factory tips get in the way of the wrap closing all around the the outside of inlet (of the tips).

So the question is if someone can explain exactly how they sealed it off with exhaust wrap. I’m trying to not have to spend money on aftermarket tips, and I really like the factory ones.

they are slip on, as you well saw. the only way, that I have seen, is to remove the tips, cut off the bracket and then weld them back on. but, if you do that, getting the rear valance off will be a pain. I have also seen where stinger owners have changed out the pipes that fit into the tips but getting larger diameter pipes. that way they can have a strap that can tighten up to the exhaust pipes leading into the tips. if I am wrong, which I have been known to be, I apologize. I also have been looking for tips to change out the ones on my stinger and have come to the conclusion, barring a new exhaust, is to buy 4 individual tips and have them bolted to the exhaust pipes with straps. please keep us informed

Thanks I’ll keep that in mind and see what others have to say.

The OEM exhaust isn't attached to the tips so why do you need to seal off an aftermarket setup?

Because the OEM exhaust makes much less noise. With the much louder exhaust it creates drone around 2k rpms. By sealing off the exhaust agains the tips, the sound is brought outside the car, and does not escape on the inside (under the car) to create drone.

Understand. Could you put a baffle on similar to OEM?

well, to combat the drone that some aftermarket exhausts have, you can always just pull up the carpet in the hatch area and add some sound deadening. either something like a sound mat or just a rubber mat. it won't get rid of it completely, not like sound mat, but that adds weight, but a rubber mat will keep it quieter. the hatch area is like the box most subwoofers are put it.

I don’t think that would be worth the time and effort. From what I’ve read, it has limited effectiveness.

Honestly just buy the oval tips and call it a day. They look better than stock and really do cancel the drone.

Have you seen specific ones that fit ?

There is an entire thread that has links to round and oval tips. Search for “exhaust tips”.

What?? it's only post 700-something in the MBRP thread, how could you miss it?

Here's a post where I explain how to do it using baling wire, along with a couple of pictures. A bit further down the thread, maybe 1 page later someone else did it with band clamps with pics, which is a better idea, and I later added to mine, so I recommend you go that route from the getgo. BTW, it works really well, I highly recommend the mod, the post is here:

Thanks that’s really helpful !

its post 700 because a lot of ppl love to side track the conversation ...

anyway, wrapping mufflers tips into the stock fake tips Vs adding the aftermarket tips that would clamp onto the MBRP is night and day.

I would take my time and go through the exhaust thread, only because a lot of us had bought different sizes and shape and you can pick and choose the one you like the most :)

Enjoy !
Looking forward to hear your experience once the tips are installed !

THanks for the Info. I’m trying a cheapo version first and see how it goes. I’ll post what I’ve done after the fact. I want to see how it works, and if it’s feasible before I post details.
