Just noticed this on the update site - no details yet on what revisions this will include for the HU software.

Cool. So why do I want to spend $145 on this?

We don't know what 13.5 changes, we know at least it'll update the map. Depending on the software features, it may be worth it.

Also, if you haven't gotten an upgrade yet since owning the car, you're entitled to one free one. When it comes out you can request it.

Nice - I didn't know that we got one freebie.

It's not really a 'freebie'. They will provide a one-time 'get current' update if the software version provided with your new car was already out of date at the time you took possession - which is a substantial number (if not the majority) of them.

Sounds less appealing now, but still good to know. Can’t see myself clamoring for this update when I’ve got Google/Waze and CarPlay.

Check to see what is included for software changes when its released. They bundle head unit (HU) updates with the map updates, so significant changes could be included to how the native car software works - audio player, data services, navigation display, telephony/texting, etc.

Personally I don't care about keeping the car's base map/POI database updated as I primarily use Google and Waze anyway. It's going to have to be something substantial on the HU side before I pay the hefty update cost, but especially if you are due for a complimentary update it's worth checking their release notes to see what they've done.

Do you know how we redeem this? My car is still on 10.5
