I'm a new Kia owner and purchased my 2019 Stinger GT2 AWD at the end of 2021 and I am in love with most of the vehicle. That being said, I came to this forum because I am experiencing issues that my local dealership cannot seem to give me an answer to. The engine knocking at cold start and when driving is becoming an annoyance. I keep seeing some people say that the noise is "normal" but I have been working on cars on and off my whole life. I know a lifter knock when I hear one but the dealership keeps referring the sound to the High Pressure Fuel Pump...I hear that noise and another separately. Warranty is still active obviously so I am at the mercy of the service technicians it seems.
Additionally I am hearing a significant grinding noise in my driver side front wheel housing after having the car in reverse and placing it back into drive. I have the all-wheel drive and I assume it's something to do with that but after 3 separate trips to the dealership, the installation of a new shock, bearing, and dampener the noise is STILL happening. I'm thinking that these service techs in Florida aren't used to working on AWD models but at the same time I cant see any feasible reason for this to continue when they've supposedly "fixed" the problem.

Any insight from other owners with these issues would be GREATLY appreciated!

Welcome. Moving this out of the community lounge as it is Stinger specific.

Can this post be distilled down into a question?

Of course! Two questions actually. First, is anyone experiencing or having previously experienced the loud knocking in the cylinder heads not including the hpfp? Second, has anyone experienced a slight grinding noise in the front end after switching from reverse to drive? If so on either, what are the potential fixes that have been applied?

Loud knocking - no.
Ticking from the HPFP is normal, and louder ticks during cold starts, also normal.

Grinding, when shifting from reverse to drive, no.
I hear a very faint electrical motor (the e-shifter) as it physically moves the shifter arm on the transmission.

Howdy and welcome. Used car, might have been repaired after a prang. A local guy (who hasn't posted in years, this was back in 2018) got maneuvered into a curb to avoid a collision: the suspension was fixed, but he had a grinding noise that got worse until they determined that the driver's front wheel bearing had failed. This doesn't match your description of the source of the grinding noise: but I'm just pointing out that a repair won't necessarily find everything that got damaged/compromised.

As for engine "knock", that actually sounds dire to me. Hopefully any warranty work is swift instead of dragged out.

Ticking is normal. Grinding while shifting is not.

At what vehicle speed do you hear what you are describing as "grinding"?

Stationary while shifting from R to D?
Or
when shifting between 1st and 2nd?
Or
When you turn the steering wheel?

The tick is normal. It’s in your head so you’re probably more sensitive to it. As time goes by you won’t hear it but for cold starts. The other issue is not normal. Can you make a small video of this. There are a lot of sharp folks on here and the more info/clues you can give the better. Good luck.

Immediately after shifting from R to D and while turning the wheel. In a sense, when I back out of my driveway and start to drive it makes an awful grinding noise.

I would capture a quick video of this grinding and share with the community to get some thoughts.

Having difficulty understanding if this grinding is related to steering when stopped, or shifting when stopped.

Is it just the sound of dry steering the tires?
