Hey Everyone,
Planning on ordering a set of 2.5" Loudvalves Boost Activated Exhaust Cutouts this weekend and having them install next week. Many of you have probably heard about the electronic cutouts or the EVC exhaust systems that are out there, but haven't heard about these.
These cutouts essentially operate the same as the electric ones but instead of using servo motors to either be open or closed all the time, these use either boost or vacuum to open/close the butterfly valve. This means they are only open when you are hitting boost, and the amount of boost it takes to open the valves can be controlled by a simple manual boost controller. The loudvalve ones start to open at 3psi, and are fully open at 6-7psi, using the built in spring. Basically like an external wastegate, but these NO EFFECT on the boost pressure of the turbos. The advantage to this over the electric ones is that it opens almost instantly, and only when on WOT. These also have no motors that will eventually burn out.
I plan on installing mine somewhere on the midpipe right before the secondary cats using a y-pipe and dump tube to angle the exhaust flow down away from the car. Fumes shouldn't be an issue since these will only be opening under load at speed. I'll also be installing their electric solenoid kit that allows you to bypass the vacuum line going to each cutout. This gives even further control for those times you wanna get on the throttle hard, but keep things quiet.
Reason I chose to go this route was to save money and also maintain the quiet ride around town while commuting to and from work, but still have that amazing exhaust sound under spirited driving conditions.
