I have no confidence in Kia's ability to manage dealer mistakes after my experience. I took timestamped photos and made the dealer pull a work order for the issue. Is it worth it to take it further, in your experiences?
When my engine failed, they declined to replace my engine, put the onus on the dealer as a "workman issue", and the dealer completely ignored my repeated requests for a repair. It took KIA 2 months to reach that conclusion after being given all the evidence. I was forced to wrangle with insurance to replace the engine as a "possible sabotage" event. I got extremely lucky and they accepted the claim after I plead my case. MEanwhile the dealership kicked my car off the lot and had me tow it back and forth from their lot to my home twice while KIA "investigated". They almost forced me to do it a third time and refused to start the work unless they were paid in full in advance by the insurance company, despite assurances from this major insurance company to them that the check was on the way via snail mail. Caused me to go "overtime" on my rental. Fun.
After I got the car back, I looked under the hood. I might have taken a picture but I can't find it right now. It was not like that, so my assumption is that it came loose. with driving. I haven't done a thing to the car aside fill it up with gas and washer fluid. Part of my motivation for deciding on
aftermarket mods was that it can't be any worse than the total amateurism, buck-passing, and flat-out disrespect I received from the dealers in the past. Hello, evne today when I had the issue fixed I asked them about why they recommended that I change the brake pads and tires despite the care being at 10k miles when I got it back. They replied they did not know (the tech who made the recommendation was not on shift). I asked for a tire rotation which included a brake inspection per their standards, not mine. When I got the car back and asked about the condition of the tires and brakes, they said "they're fine". When I asked for a status on the specific pad and tread depth for the brakes and tires respectively, I was told they don't do that on jsut a tire rotation... even though the service description says it on their brochures and at the cards on the tech's desks. Then, I observed a customer come in after me with a
Sportage and her tech gave her a full report on her tread depth and brake status after receiving the same service. I said nothing, paid the bill, took the work orders and left. The jokes just write themselves.
For reference, every time I took my Mazda3 to a Mazda dealer for service, they gave me a report on current tread depth and brakes. No matter what. That was my understanding of "free multi-point inspection for every service", as this dealer claims. Maybe my past wrangling with them makes them treat me different, I don't know. I was respectful throughout the ordeal. The engine failure wasn't their issue but I have it on good authority they laughed at me when I had the car towed in and their service manager ran interference when the tech who originally diagnosed the engine failure put the root cause on a lazy tech who didn't torque a plug to spec. Alas, what choice do I have when they did the work and their work causes an issue?
Anyway, not trying to be a negative nancy, just want to cover my rear after all the burning its received these last 6 months.
