Hello,
I've been looking to buy a Stinger for a few years and think I'm finally going to do it!

I found a car I like, but just noticed something in one of the pictures that's making me pause.. Does anyone know what could be going on towards the front? Looks like paint spilled or something, and I don't think that orange strip should be there either. I almost thought the orange was digital, but see it on another picture, too.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Looks like they ran it through a car wash in preparation for it's close up.

Howdy, post the other pic(s). I'm not convinced that is water drying. There was a Stinger on here a couple of years back that had that same engine shroud spattered with (something), never determined what, when or why. He got the part replaced and moved on.

Thanks for the info! Here's the other pic. Do you happen to recall or think if it was covered by warranty for the other person you mentioned?

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Looks like some chemical damage to the plastic. I highly doubt the warranty would cover that.

This a used car?

About 8k miles, used.

It's hard to tell what it is, but yeah I could see it being some kind of chemical damage, but wouldn't think spilling normal fluids (oil, coolant, etc.) would have caused that so worried, what were they doing to cause that? Or could it have it came from the factory that way and got passed because it's just discoloration or something.

Alternatively, hopefully it wouldn't be due to some kind of overheating or something.

The vehicle is online so I haven't got to see in person. Not sure if I should go through with it or not. I know it's hard to say, but just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on if it looks serious, seen it before (like one poster mentioned above), etc.

Almost positive that is not drying moisture, as there is no hint of moisture anywhere else.

The other (two-year-old) case was spatters, not spills like this one appears to be. It was very strange looking: the shroud spatters ended exactly where the painted bumper cover began: so, clearly the contamination occurred when the shroud was off the car: we speculated, like you, that it might have actually occurred during assembly. As I recall, the owner had quite a tussle with the dealership over who did this: they, of course, tried to blame him somehow. And as it was an original owner's warranty, Kia covered the replacement. In your case, I'm sure you'll have to take the hit for a replacement. But why bother replacing? Just paint over it: take it off and prep and spray, with something really tough like Rust-Oleum.

We did have a member here with something like that, but not as big, I believe it cleaned off with minimal effort, but you could always ask them to replace the plastic bit before you buy... I would suspect if it was something significant they would have swapped out the part to hide the damage before taking pics. If you are communicating via email ask them point blank what's going on with the stain.

looking at a bunch of other stingers for sale.. only found a couple more on carvana, and vroom that had the orange sticker... one was decent enough to zoom in to see... sticker for the remote start to warn people to disconnect the battery before performing maintenance due to possibility of it starting from someone hitting the remote start i guess.... also, saw a few other stingers with some weird discolorations on the black plastic as well.. it seems like maybe it's whatever "armorall" type stuff but doesn't stick on areas that may have had oil or something spilled on it?

Asking for a replacement BEFORE purchasing will of course give you much better results & leverage :)

I would never buy anything unseen

Pretty much any fluid that can be drained/topped off under the hood can cause some type of staining depending on the material it comes into contact with. While worthy of note, I wouldn't be too concerned. Like others have suggested, having the cover in question replaced or having them deduct the cost for the cover from the sale price would be warranted. If the car is still under full warranty, I wouldn't worry much about the why knowing you have coverage for whatever could possibly be wrong. This alone just isn't an indicator anything is.

Agree with others, look someone spilled something while they were servicing the vehicle and it stained the plastic. Ask them about it to make sure and if that's all it is see if they'll do something about it like knock off a few bucks so you can buy a new piece.
