LED High Beam out already :(

What next? You have to replace the entire wheel and tire if you lose a valve stem cap?o_O

To me it's not so much the fact you have to change the entire headlight to do bulbs (although kind of odd), but rather every time I see someone quoting the price of a replacement part, everything is over a grand in this car it seems. I had to buy a piece of plastic trim for the rear door that I broke, I bet the part is worth 10 bucks, but I had to pay 200 to get it.

I guess it could be worse though, a coworker was telling me how he had to pay 5 grand to replace a fuel pump in his Range Rover...3k for the part and 2k for install...ridiculous! I think I paid 700 to have mine done in an old turbo Dodge Daytona.

I mean, OP's issue fixed itself, so the bulb is still fine. Means we still haven't seen a single one fail in ~2 years of the car being out (Outside of the auto leveling stuff going wonky). Considering the LED bulbs in most OEM stock LED headlights are rated for 100,000 hours, it's actually a cost savings, since the car should be long dead before the bulbs ever need replaced. That's 11.4 years of 24/7 operation, or 3.5 million miles if averaging 35mph on the car. If you live on a planet where it's not dark 24/7, they'll last even longer! I'm cool with that, seeing as how convoluted replacing bulbs in Halogen lit cars is starting to get anyways.

Just don't physically break the headlight assembly. That'll be expensive. Lol.

Edit: Also, headlight assemblies are freaking expensive in every car now. My Ford Fusion was $850 a pop for headlights when I hit a deer.

NEVER own a Range Rover out of warranty.

I'm pretty sure that every car offered with LED headlights from the factory works like this. LED's are integrated into the assembly, and the whole assembly needs replaced if/when it dies. That being said, if an LED doesn't fail prematurely, they're rated for ~100,000 hours of on-time. Chances are, the rest of the car will fail long before that, as that's roughly 3.5 million miles if you're averaging 35 MPH over the life of the car, and 11.4 solid YEARS of leaving the headlights on 24/7.

If true than I'm not sure if I feel better or worse, because I'm sure eventually all cars have LED headlights. Obviously one of the great benefits of LED is the longevity, and in a perfect world they would last that long. But things are rarely ever perfect so it would have been nice if they'd come up with a better solution to this. Ultimately it doesn't matter if you have the warranty, but it's going to be a hard sell to own one of these out of warranty with repair bills like that for what should be a cheap part.

I guess it depends on where it fits on the reliability scale, right? Thankfully, it's a binary powered circuit with no moving parts. There aren't many of those in a car, but the stuff that is usually lasts a long time. At that point, it doesn't need to even meet it's full service life. Even if it failed at 30-40k hours instead of 100k, it'll still outlast the car.

But yeah, time will tell. Hopefully the general consensus in 20 years is "Man, I haven't had to change headlights in 20 years" instead of "Man, I wish we could go back to cheap disposable headlight bulbs"

By then, go fetch a headlight assembly from a junkyard.

Or an aftermarket alternative. It won't be long until we start seeing aftermarket headlight's for this car.

So the issue has not returned. My appointment is for today but I'm sure I'll hear they can't find the problem. I will let you all know if it pops back up.

Very strange. Thanks for keeping us updated.

Just got back from a 7 day cruise, the right headlight unit has condensation inside the cover and the high beam light is out. Called the dealer for an appointment, will be taking it in on Wednesday. It's a 2018 GT1, 15 months old. So this might be the second high beam failure.

I'm not sure what was up with mine. After letting it sit overnight the issue hasn't returned and the high beam works . Hope you don't run into any issues.

Got a call yesterday that my headlight unit was in. Took it in today and it was replaced and is like new again. Happy with the service, only took six days to order and receive the replacement unit. Took 2 hours to replace, they had to remove the front bumper to install.
