Lease buyout title and registration

I live in MD but did my lease in MI so I am still waiting on some paperwork before I can title and register my car as a lease. I called into the MVA and they mentioned if I buy it out in less than 180 days that it would need to be inspected before I could register it as a purchased vehicle...that sounded off to me so just checking has anyone here performed a successful lease buyout in MD? Do you recall the registration/title process after?
