Well, my car wash keeps ripping of my wheel bands when I go through, so I decided to discuss it with the guys there. Looks like the track long the tunnel is causing the problem, I figured I better just abandoned using the wheel bands. During the investigation, one of the workers at the car wash pointed out to me that my front tire was balding, as if it was out of alignment. Cords were starting to show on the inner edge! I thought this is crazy, since the car only as 15,000 miles on it and I have had the tires rotate twice at the dealership during oil changes.

So I went to the dealer I have been having my car serviced at to look at. They didn't have time to put it on the lift, since it was Saturday and they were jammed. The service tech saw how worn the tires were and set up an appointment for Tuesday with a loaner. Then looking more closely, he noticed that the from and back tires were both 45's, when the front was supposed to be 35's! He asked if I changed out the tires and I said nooo. So something is rotten in the state of Denmark (as Shakespeare said).

A couple of questions, if I may: Is it correct that the GT@ AWD's get 35's in the front and 45's on the back? Has anyone else have 45's on the AWD same front and back? There car was aligned a few months go, and I was told it was not out of alignment then, so I don't think that's it. The tire tread looks pretty low all around, albeit I didn't measure the treads Any other ideas what would cause this?

Hopefully the cracked trim piece will be in by Tuesday, so I can get my steering wheel also repaired. New Issue Discovered: Cracked Upper Cover - Kia (56171-J5100)

At 15,000, I hope these issues do not portend more assorted troubles to come, time will tell.

Thanks for reading.

Just to make sure I got this correctly. Is your GT2 AWD running 18" or 19" wheels? From your post, it seems you are running a staggered setup, if so, your fronts should be 225/40 19 and the rears should be 255/35 19. At 15k miles, those tires would be dead following a normal rotation for that car from side to side. The warranty on tires with a staggered setup is going to be half of what it would be running a squared setup.

If you're running the MPS4 I think 15k is about all they're good for.

I took mine off at 12k and the rears were approaching balding.

225 Bridgestone tires only came on 18inch wheels

The Bridgestones (18” setup) gets 225/45 18s, those have a 400 thread wear rating but if I were you I wouldn’t go looking to get new ones of those. They are Grand Touring types and crappy tires. I’m not sure why KIA chose to use them on the GT seeing as though it has such high horsepower, at the least, they should be using UHP AS tires. Get yourself some better tires and go a bit wider, say 235/45 18 or 245/45 18 (it’s a bit higher but will provide some protection for the NY roads in winter), those will fit your 8” wide rim and be better for the power of your car. If you had planned on putting on bigger rims and tires, then a switch to snows on those rims would make sense now.

Now that you need tires, get better ones.

What tire would you recommend?

There was an option for 18 inch wheels and all season tires. It seems you have that option.

Either check your sticker or post a picture of your wheel /tire combo

@NYLAWBIZ You are asking for help but have not answered multiple questions about your wheel size. We don't want to work from assumptions which may be incorrect.
OEM size for the 18" square setup is 225-45R18 all the way around.
OEM size for 19" staggered is 225/40ZR 9 Fronts & 255/35ZR19 Rears

To add to this, there is an AWD All Season Option that comes with 18" GT wheels which looks exactly like the 19" Summer wheels.

Check tirerack.com to see which one you want to go with. They will show you options, price and videos on how the perform in wet/dry and cold weather. There are a few threads here that also lists tires members like and run.

I think he's asking for opinions on the best tire and tire size to go with.

I didn't get that from his first three posts but the last one in the quote... I guess I see that now.

Here is what I got out of my 2010 Subaru Legacy GT. Similar weight / AWD / 25% less power as the Stinger.
