Kia USA Stinger Presentation

First Drive reviews of the U.S. spec Stinger are being published today. Of special note are the cars Kia is looking at as competition (e.g. BMW 6 Series......seriously!), which I'm assuming is to justify the higher than initially anticipated price tag.

Oh, and there is no cover for the cupholders.

That's a great deal of positive reviews. I really wish that Kia had put those 3 extra features (360 camera, wireless charging, and heated rear seats) in the US. It sounds pretty much perfect otherwise.

I hope the reviewers were following this car closely for a while like most of us were and are aware of the missing features while writing their reviews. I'd love for them to put pressure on Kia for removing these things prior to launch rather than them just not being mentioned at all.

AutoGuide's written review seems to confirm the pricing we hoped wouldn't be true.

"US Price: $32,795 to $52,595
CAN Price: $48,560 to $53,560 est. (GT model only)
(All pricing includes destination)
"

Ugh no panoramic sunroof.

"While a sunroof will be available, a panoramic glass roof was eschewed to keep the rigidity of the body. The inside keeps up the higher level of quality here, too; the thick, flat-bottomed steering wheel conveys that sporty attitude, while the switchgear feels solid and the seats are bolstered for sporty driving. "

Thats a 4 month old preview article. The sunroof now looks the same as it has been the whole time. I don't recall there ever been a discussion on a panoramic sunroof. it's always just been a "full width" sunroof. Unless I'm forgetting something?

You're right I may have been getting confused with the Genesis G80 or G70 sport.

The Stinger is far closer in dimensions to the 6 series than the 4 , the wheel base of the Stinger is slightly longer than the 6 and it weighs 465 lbs less , the 640 has 315 HP too , I had a 650 Cabriolet , nice but not great , focussed more on Lux than Performance ...................we might be surprised . Also the 6 series is basically a sporty 5 series sharing the same Chassis and lots of components .Given Schreyer and Biermans desire to raise the bar I think we will get a very competitive car to 640 !

The media makes things so confusing by comparing the Stinger to much smaller cars because of it's much smaller price tag. Yes, this is much more of a 6-Series competitor than a 4-Series competitor. o_O

? I'm not sure you can go just by length in comparisons.. By that measurement is the optima a 6-series competitor? The optima is an inch longer than the stinger..
I've sat in an optima and a 640i and they are no where close to the same quality car. I haven't had a chance to sit in the stinger, but I'm not sure I would compare it to a 6 series BMW..

Yeah the issue is just the Stinger sits in its own little 'class' somewhere between the 4 series GC/S5 Sportback and the 5 series/S7. The 4 series & S5 have little to no rear legroom and the Stinger has a bit less than the S7/5 series but at the same time the Stinger competes favorably with the handling and drive of the smaller vehicles. To me that makes this the perfect blend... I wanted performance of a 4 series/S5 but the legroom was a dealbreaker with 2 kids and occasionally needing to fit adults in the back. The 5 series and S7 are great cars but not worth 70k IMO which is how they would be spec'd out to what I would want. The 5 series styling is also pretty dated with only minimal changes in 7 years. The S7 looks good but muted compared to the Stinger. Now the only question is how will the G70 compare to the Stinger.

Length , Weight and HP ........................Optima is not in the same conversation ...................

Sitting in, VS driving means little and its not an Optima comparison . Also length doesnt mean foot print which means stability and handling . The Stingers " wheel base " is 4 " longer than an Optima and slightly longer than a 6 series , Overhangs (length ) means very little , almost all the International reviews give a par rating to the Stinger VS the 4 series , A5 , C series etc which suggests the reviewers were blown away and not wanting to blow their cred or rep on saying " its better !" .
