Kia Stinger: Why I'd Buy It (Motor Trend)

"... after all, it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow, and with a 6.6-second 0-60 time, the slow Stinger, well, isn't."

Well said. (but what happened to 5.9?)

The 2.0 seldom gets love like this, but I’ll tell ya, driving between Asheville and Charlotte and back yesterday I could have taken a nap. Wait......that would be in a Tesla I guess. Anyway, humming along at 75, 80, ish and still being able to pass at will is sweet.

Butt dyno tells me it's closer to the 5.9 then the 6.6. It's a nice little engine once it gets going.
So, where do you think his "6.6" is coming from? That's quite a difference from Kia's stated figure.

Not sure. I haven't really tried to launch the car very often, but it seems somewhat inconsistent whether it takes off or sort of bogs down, so you don't always get a hard launch.
I've noticed variable engine response. So many factors and the car is complex! Taking off has made me dizzy a couple of times (but not for a while now; I'm used to the rush). But it definitely doesn't rocket from a rolling acceleration like it does from a dead stop. Plenty of power for passing, though, and that's all I expected when I went with the 3.3L. I'm sure the 2.0L has good pep too. But I wanted it all. :P

Haha, I bet! 3.3 just wasn't in the budget for me, but I was surprised by how peppy the 2.0l was and I really liked the color. :)

2019 Stinger 2.0 RWD has plenty of get up and go for me. 90% of them time it's driven in city with plenty of traffic.

Car and Driver's 0-60 tests are with a roll-out if I remember correctly, not a standing start. That'll easily take several tenths off of a "0-60" time.

How does that work? How slow is the roll before they measure from "zero"?

It's a 1ft roll out, so basically, they launch from a stop but don't start the timer until the car moves 1 ft. Cuts down on wheel slip and guessing reaction times.

Dragy is capable of measuring 0-60 and can give your 1-foot rollout 0-60 as well. On our cars the 1ft-60 is about .2-.3 faster than the recorded standing 0-60.

At the quarter mile, isn't that c. a couple of car lengths?

At the quarter mile? That's at least a car if not more just getting to 60. 3 tenths at the quarter is getting dragged.
