I bought the two-piece Fella Lightweight Brake Rotors Upgrade from K8 stinger. About 5 months ago I started hearing loud clunking noise and now it is happening every day, and I don't know what to make of it. I took it to the local Kia facility, and they said that the noise is coming from the new Two-piece rotors I installed.

I wanted to take some suggestions, or if anyone has gone through this same issue because I wouldn't want to replace this after spending so much for this package. Now is making all sorts of pretty loud clunking noises.

I not only replaced the sway bars and links, but also the brake pads as well. I have not been able to fix the noise at all. Any help will be appreciated.

Vehicle: 2019 Kia Stinger GTS RWD

Get them to be specific. What with the two-piece rotors is making noise? They can't just say it's the 2-piece rotors and not explain it.

Also, how/when is it clunking? The entire time while driving, while hitting bumps, when first moving? There's a lot of variables with very little detail, especially since you changed so many things all at the same time. The more detail you provide, the better. Just saying "It's clunking more now" isn't exactly helpful.

Also pretty much every Kia dealership will blame aftermarket parts for just about anything if they can. They probably took a wheel off, saw the rotors and said "Yup that's the problem" and put the wheel back on, if they even bothered to go that far.

Well let's start simple is the two-piece rotor secured together properly. Are the brake calipers on tight the brake pads Ok and in one piece

The clunking noise only happens when backing into a parking space, or forward into a parking space. Always at the lowest speeds. Specially fully stopping. On a regular day, I turn on the car, after it warms up I back it up and as soon as I start to pump on the brakes, the noise starts. It never happens on once I'm on the road, when turning and braking at low speeds. No noise when hitting bumps.

All Kia said was that there was a similarity with the noise that a Hellcat vehicle rotors make sometimes, and they recommended a brake shim kit.

I figured they were not going to mess with it because it was aftermarket, but I have never bought a brake shim kit before, so I had no idea where to turn but the noise is getting annoying and I'm not sure if it is causing more issue in the long run.

I made sure that the brake pads were installed just like they were on the stock rotors. and the clippers are holding them tightly, but I believe that the rotors are actually thinner than the stock ones so there may be some wiggle room, but I have yet to feel wiggle from the pads when I take the wheels off and check. That is a guess though.

So from what it sounds like, it sounds like the sound only happens when you brake the first time after changing directions. So when you first reverse, hit the brakes *clunk*. Put back into drive, hit the brakes *clunk*, but doesn't clunk again until you reverse and hit the brakes. Sound about right? If so, there's been some chatter about some brake pads shifting a little back and forth in the calipers when changing directions and braking.

Kia blamed it on the aftermarket rotors because they had someone from dodge come over and convinced them that it was a similar noise to what a Hellcat vehicle would experience with their rotors. All they recommended was for me to get a brake shim kit. I have never bought a brake shim kit, so I had no idea what to make of it and have not do much research on it yet.

I don't think rotors play into this but I could be wrong. what @bfglitch said right above your post echoes what I've heard too. A pad might be a tad loose and move the first time brake is applied in that direction.

This is almost certainly the brake pads causing the noise.

What pads do you have on the car?

Why is the noise a problem?

Thanks for the insight. So, from the sound of it, I would just have to figure a way to tighten the pads with the clipper that comes with it.

Thank you for the insight. This takes away the fear of replacing the rotors again. I will check the brake pads again and see what I can do to tighten then so that it reduces the noise if possible. Any suggestions would help.

The brake pads that I'm using are:

2018-2023 Kia Stinger - K8SS Elite Sport Ceramic Brake Pads

I bought these from the K8 stinger store.

The noise is pretty loud, and it sound like the car is braking as it starts moving. I'm not even sure if it is causing damage, but it is always a concern.

Some folks have also mentioned if the clips aren't installed properly this could happen as well. I'm still currently running completely OEM with my brake components so I'm not really sure but I've read a decent amount of the threads. Try using the search function of the forum. There's a couple very long threads regarding brakes/pads/etc.

Now you are adding significant mystery.

"Sounds like the car is braking as it starts moving"?

You totally confused me with that one.
Perhaps you have a very different sound than most are suspecting.

Many here were assuming you were talking about a "click" after a direction change, but now, totally confused...

Can you have someone outside the car take a movie while you move the car forward and backward and post it so we can watch it?
