Kia Stinger Advice

Good Evening Guys,

I am very new to the “stinger” scene and was seeking for some advice. I’m in a situation where I can either buy a USED 2020 GT2 or buy a USED maybe even NEW 2021-2022 GT1.

I would like to know what you guys would go with, and maybe some pros vs cons?
Some things that come to mind is I love the Electronic shifter that comes with the GT2 and also the interior upgrade. This car would be my daily driver.

I do have simple questions like:
Is the 2021 GT1 Interior screen the same size as the GT2?

Any insight would be much appreciated!

I believe the GT1 and GT2 both get the Harmon Kardon with the same 8" screen. 2022 saw a screen update, owners like it. I rarely look at my screen, fwiw.

I'm also in the market, although I dislike the GT2 shifter. That said, I considered every option, including used, and have settled on a new GT2 regardless. The used car market blows, and the new 2022 models, despite seeming to be "not that much different than 2021," are to my eyes much better value over the long term. The new infotainment system, larger 10.25" display, modern kia badging, blind view monitor, wheels without fake center caps, and frameless mirrors make the car feel way more modern.

The 2021 GT1 and GT2 infotainment systems are identical AFAIK.

That's a smart choice. I personally would always pick a new car over a used one if I can afford it. Congrats!!

Keep in mind, with the 2022 refresh the trim packages didn't stay the exact same. A 2022 GT1 does NOT have the same features as a 2021 GT1. With the refresh, a lot of features got blocked exclusively to the top GT2 trim.

From what I can figure out, the following are features that are only on the 2022 GT2 that were previously on GT1s (but no longer for 2022):
- Electronically Controlled Suspension,
- Harmon Kardon audio,
- 7" upgraded gauge cluster,
- Auto dimming outside mirrors,
- Ventilated front seats,
- Power tilt/telescope steering wheel, and
- Auto dimming rearview mirror/ Homelike garage opener.

These are in addition to the other features that were always GT2 specific:
- Nappa leather,
- Heads-Up display,
- Surround View Monitor,
- Dynamic low beam assist,
- 12 way power passenger seat (vs 8 way),
- Heated rear seats,
- Power lift trunk/hatch,
- Shift by wire gear selector,
- 16 way adjustable driver's seat (vs 12 way)

How I narrowed what I wanted down - I really wanted the '22 updates. The exhaust and new infotainment screen were the major reasons. From there, I looked at the features available, and I really wanted the heads up display, ventilated seats, Harmon Kardon, and electronically controllable suspension. If I could stomach the screen in the pre-2022 models, a GT1 would have been perfect, but with the trim shake-ups, I went for a 2022 GT2.


I did this by using Kia's own comparison tools on their site. To answer your one question, yes, it looks like the 2021 GT1 and GT2 have the same infotainment screen size.

Howdy and welcome. Either choice had its pros and cons. Kia downgraded the '22 GT1 from all previous year GT1s. It's more like the GT was (no longer available). I doubt that you are getting the "electronic shifter": I think the '22 GT1 has the "T" shifter: which I happen to be 100% happy with, because it has manual gate (and I happen to also like the retro look of the "T" shifter, since the Stinger as a concept is retro in many ways as far as visual aesthetics are concerned).
