Record-Setting Performance by the Sportage CUV Propels Kia to Highest March Sales Total Since 2016

IRVINE, Calif., April 3, 2018 – Kia Motors America today announced March sales of 50,645 vehicles, a 2.5-percent increase over the same period last year. The month was highlighted by best-ever March sales of the Sportage CUV, which were up more than 41-percent over the same period last year. In addition, four other Kia models realized significant increases in sales year-over-year, including the Cadenza and Rio, which were up 75.5- and 72.3-percent, respectively, and the Soul and Sorento models, which posted 5.0- and 3.6-percent gains.

“Kia’s retail sales continue to climb with five models posting gains year-over-year, despite a 15.9-percent decrease in fleet sales,” said Bill Peffer, vice president, sales operations, Kia Motors America. “With Stinger sales rising and the Sportage CUV setting monthly sales records in each of first three months of the year, Kia enters the second quarter with tremendous momentum and several important new, high-volume products on the horizon, including the refreshed Sorento and all-new Forte sedan.”

It's funny to look at last month's sales figures thread and see what everyone's predictions for March's sales were! Anyone care to prognosticate April's numbers? :)

I think it's going to hover around the 1550-1650 range for a few more months.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

That would make annual sales less than 20k. I'm wondering if that's enough sales for KIA consider the Stinger a success.
Given that overall sales are up I guess it's a win for them in general.

I suspect things will pick up towards the end of summer/beginning of fall when the 19s start rolling in. But I'm sure Kia is fully aware that the Stinger will never be a large volume seller.

When I spoke with them about my map update he said the Stinger was doing better than they had planned. So I would say it is already a success!

Given the source I would think there's some bias there but I'm happy to hear it.

Agree - and in months where Kia offers better lease deals and more Kia dealerships are discounting - in the 1700-1800 range (maybe even hitting 2k once).

To put this in context, the 1G Genesis sedan (which started at around the same price-point) had its best sales year with around 26-27k in sales.

Doubtful that the Stinger will reach those heights as its not the value proposition the 1G Genesis sedan was, a fastback/liftback doesn't appeal to everybody and there's more competition (esp. w/ the G70 on the way) in the entry-level lux segment.
