Kia needs to drop the price of the Stinger

honestly do not think that any stinger buyer is going to cross shop for the g70. same with a g70 buyer to a stinger. just two cents worth. and yes, i agree about the pricing, but, all the high prices that everybody is seeing is dealerships marking it up. the same for any hot car coming out. wait and see what the g70 is going to sold for at an actual dealership. like that 60+ grand stinger that was for sale until they dropped the price down to correct levels.

Right now the price difference between the Stinger and G70 is way too close. For 5k more you can get the G70 which is slightly faster, apparently handles much better, has a better interior, and has more features. It would make sense if it was a 10k difference, but 5k? Come on. I don't understand what Hyundai is thinking on this one. Drop the MSRP for the GT down to 35k, GT1 40k, and GT2 45k and we'll be talking.

Technically yes, but not by much. It's less than 6 inches shorter and less than 1 inch wider. For comparison a 5 series is over a foot longer and over 2 inches wider than a 3 series.

The Stinger and G70 are in the same class and will compete for the same customers.

While I agree that the Stinger GT2 should have topped out at $50k (at most) in the US, have to keep in mind that the Stinger is not only a good bit larger, but is a fastback/liftback which entails greater cost due to structural rigidity.

A BMW 340 starts at $48.9k.

A 430 Gran Coup starts at $49.7 (and for the '19MY - $51k).

The A4 w/ Quattro starts at $40.5k.

The A5 Sportback starts at $42.6k.

In addition to the G70 being developed as a compact sports sedan and the Stinger as Gran Turismo, part of the reason why the G70 handles better is due to its shorter wheelbase.

I haven't read all of this thread BUT I hope they don't drop the Price! The more Money they drop, the less Money we make, if we want to sell it again.

one side note, the EU base Stinger does have twiche as much Equipment and gadgests than a base model BMW or Audi. If you want a simular equiped german car, you pay 20k on top

I am. I'll want to drive it and of course be happy with the size and such, but I may end up that way if Kia doesn't offer the Stinger the way I want it..

Has anyone seen pics of the base model optionless G70? All I've seen are the top trims with their 19" wheels and fancy interior.

I want to see what kind of wheels and interior the $35k car will have. And also what kind of lease deals Genesis will offer. I wouldn't be surprised to see them leased out in the high 200 low 300 dollar range.

So far we have no info about the US G70, even pricing.

I'm actually on the Canadian Genesis site right now. Looks like it'll start at roughly $33k USD with 2.0t AWD for them, has pretty nice base wheels, and it's nicely equipped in base form (again, FOR THEM). It also looks like the base model will have single side exhaust, which I think looks absolutely horrible.

Who knows how Genesis plans to shaft U.S. buyers.

Yeah exactly, anything they have in Canada I'm expecting to be very different for the US. Even pricing may not convert directly for us.

I certainly think people will cross shop them. Though they are in different categories, there must be others out there in my boat. Here's what I'm looking for in my next daily driver car:
$40-50k
AWD
Fast
Comfortable
Sporty
Practical
Reliable/good warranty
Modern tech

Things that meet those criteria are quite varied, from the Golf R, Stinger GT1/2 AWD, G70 (probably), G80 Sport, Audi A4/CPO S4, BMW 3 series, Lexus GS, Lexus IS, Subaru WRX/STI. Heck I even considered a few SUVs like the Mazda CX9, BMW X3 and Jeep Grand Cherokee (sporty in a different/offroad way).

I've narrowed it down to the Golf R and the Stinger GT1/2 AWD. Two very different cars, but when you look at the above criteria you can see how both meet most/all of my criteria.

Maybe if Kia is selling the Stinger the way they planned then Genesis should raise the price on the G70 rather than Kia lowering theirs?

I am cross shopping both cars and have driven both the G70 3.3T Sport and Stinger GT Limited.

They are what you read about them. They both have great power. The G70 handles incredibly but it's cramped. The Stinger rides softer and has more space and I like the interior better. I was hoping the G70 would work and I'd use my truck when I need more space. I'm leaning toward the Kia.

Fwiw , I started by shopping a model 3 tesla, and decided someone else can be the guinea pig. I looked at an Infiniti Q50RS when I started comparing sport sedans to consider instead of the Tesla. Korean cars are nicer and better built so far imo. German cars carry a $20k premium.

It must be said that the Q50 Red Sport 400 has amazing lease deals available...several hundred less than a comparable lease on a Stinger. Must tell you something about how hard they are to move I think...

Infinitis are nice but a little too anonymous these days.

I was only shopping cars with hatchbacks (so that rules out the G70 and I was also not interested in crossovers/SUVs), and the Stinger is probably the best all around package when price with rebates is considered. It ended up being an easy choice for me once I saw there was a trailer hitch available for a bike rack also. Most cars have hitches available for the base models but not for the upper level trims (because those trims usually have an upgraded exhaust that interferes with the mounting points used on the base model).

I looked at infinity, that dual screens they have is butt ugly and out dated. Just wasn’t my cup of tea and the stinger design just stands out from the pack.

Right You Are Ken - Great handle, Most Extreme Elimination Challenge - Get it on!

I agree with the remarks about the Infiniti. I wanted to like it and I do, but the tech and handling in the Korean cars is just better. Exterior and exterior look are subjective and they all look good. What I like about the Korean cars is that they punch above their weight against the Germans at a really good discount.

Another thing regarding the OP's assertion that the G70/Stinger price differential is too close -
The Stinger GT limited is $49,995 + $1924 Freight and PDI = $51919+tax
The G70 3.3T Sport is $57500 all in minus 500 for my Hyundai loyalty, minus say $750 for 5 year maintenance = $56250+tax
Only $4k difference. Both have 1.9% financing.

For me it comes down to the extra rear seat space with the hatch space being bonus.
