Friends and neighbours, a few moments ago I was asked to submit a
CDN$5,000. deposit
in conjunction with my pre-order of a 2018 Stinger.
This to prove that I am really, really serious. (Obviously, KIA doesn't read our stuff).
What do you think, is it

  • Fair,
  • Steep,
  • Too Steep,
  • F...g Ridicolous or
  • Won't Even Discuss
Would you go along with it, if this is posed to you, plus a pint of your blood (price always goes up)?

Pssst...my reply after meditating for 10 seconds: Go ahead.
But I told them, I draw the line when they are asking me to get a KIA tatoo on my forehead.

Don't no what the norm is in Canada but that's a big deposit. I wouldn't be putting that amount down unless you 100% sure you getting a stinger no matter what the price is. Here in Australia the stinger is ment to be on the market in less than 3 weeks and we still have not got any confirmed price or specs on the Kia Australia web site and it's really pissing people off.

Ya Kia Milton tried to get $5k off of me... I laughed, after all its a f@cking Kia!!! I ended up putting a 2K deposit to appease them. Regardless of the amount they would have to refund it should the deal not work out so not sure why the $5k requirement. I bought my last two Golf Rs on pre-orders, VW only ever asked for $500. I guarantee you if I'm not happy sitting in my Ghost Grey GT Ltd I won't be buying... but i have a feeling this car will be amazing.

Wouldn't give them a dime until they gave me a quote on exactly what it will cost with the options I want.

I think that seems steep, considering it's not a custom built car with overseas delivery etc etc.

I think $1000 deposit is very reasonable. It worked well for Tesla and their upcoming model 3.... which has been in the works much longer than the Stinger.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I pre-ordered one from West Toronto Kia and they only asked for a $1000 deposit. Which is 100% refundable.

5k does seem pretty high!

I personally think it is a high price to ask for a car sight unseen. Without even having a display model or one you can test drive to prove the cars worth shows you just how out of touch they are with the market. That being said I do understand why they are doing it, seeing this is their first real sports sedan they have built and wanting to gauge interest prior to shipment makes sense. The 5k price tag just seems extreme, I still put it down because it is refundable, but I felt like it was too much to ask when I cant even get a brochure....

I think it will be interesting to see if pricing is consistent across Canada, clearly the deposits taken are all over the map. I friend of mine only put $500 deposit in Mississauga after the dealership tried really hard to get $5K from him. He basically stated as you did Hexx, pretty hard to justify any hefty deposit without touching and feeling the product first especially one from an unlikely manufacturer.

Anyone know how many are coming to Canada? I heard 120 cars for 2018.

200 in the first wave, all on a pre-order system with delivery expected in early to mid-December.
