18 GT2 AWD, 28k miles, all stock. Bought the car two months ago and I’ve been having strange issues ever since.

Key fobs not locking/unlocking car.
Interior lighting dimming in and out.
Heads up display dimming in and out.
DRL come on and off randomly while driving and park. The car always has started right up even when i have these issues, it’s never had a dead battery.

It can go days without any issues at all, then suddenly it doesn’t want to lock/unlock and the issues above happen for a day or two.

I tried two weeks or so ago to put a new battery in it as it still had the original, thinking that was the culprit. Everything was fine for a week then it started happening all over.

Appointments for my local dealer are several weeks out so I figure I’ll see if anyone here can give me a suggestion or has seen something similar before I wait on the dealer to open up.

Replaced key fob batteries in both fobs several times hoping that was an issue. Nothing.

Your fob battery could be going south. That doesn't explain HUD and interior lights going dim and normal: which sounds more like a loose connection to me. How do you know that the DRL go off and come back on? Do you look at yourself in a reflection?

I can usually see the lights in the reflection of the car in front of me. I tripled check the connections the best I could while I changed the battery. Everything appears fine. As far as the fob, both fobs are intermittent. If one doesn’t unlock the car, I’ve gone back inside and come back out to try the other and still nothing.

Well, the fob batteries are likely the same age, so that doesn't trouble shoot the fobs much.

I wasn't thinking of battery connections being loose: but rather some wiring harness.

Replaced both fob batteries. Couple times over, I was hoping it was that easy when I first had the issues

Ah, I didn't get that from what you said; it sounded like car battery swap only.

Update:

Dealer called me earlier this week and was able to get me in Thursday for an appointment. Dropped the car off in the morning and gave them a very detailed explanation, with videos of the issues I was having. Didn’t hear back Thursday or Friday. At 1:30 on Saturday they called, they are able to replicate all the issues I was having.. but don’t know the cause. Said they’d be opening a Tech Line with Kia on Monday morning to see what Kia wanted them to do or how to proceed forward.

Should be interesting.

Updating this as it happens for anyone who cares. Dealer called me on Monday and said it was a bad BCM. They ordered it and installed it Thursday morning. They kept the car all day and called me at 4:00pm and let me know it’s still having all the same issues. Back to the “Tech Line” they go.

Strange things like this make me believe a bad ground somewhere.

As of this afternoon Kia has had them replace the BCM 3 times (they thought they were bad out of the box apparently) and now they think it’s a rain sensor of all things. So that’s the next part they’re throwing at it.

Dealer had the car for 3 months. Just picked it up on Monday the 28th of December. Turned out to be a bad dash harness. So far so good. Hopefully this is the end of my issues.
