My dad died in April and I got his blessing to buy a new car with his money since I'm a big car nerd, I feel like I got a lot of car for the money and really enjoy it, already got some carbon fiber parts on the way!

I'm sorry to hear about your father's passing. Welcome to the group, though! The Stinger is a great deal for the money, and you'll definitely like it.

so the big question, what can I do without voiding the warranty outside of body parts?

You're going to get a lot of different answers here. The long and short of it is that Kia can deny a warranty claim for pretty much any reason they want when it comes to modifications. Whether they do or not seems to be a complete crapshoot. There is/was a dealer who used to post on here who sold bolt-on Stingers with warranty intact. Some people have gotten Kia to keep the warranty intact if the dealer installed the modifications. At the end of the day, the answer is: it depends.

If you buy a JB4 and decide to change the custom map to do something stupid and pop a piston or something, you will likely be denied coverage. If you flash the ECU, they will likely deny coverage for anything having to do with the engine or transmission. Yes, they can tell if the ECU has been modified or replaced. There was a story on here about a damaged engine claim being denied due to air filters.. But for every story like that, there's another one where the dealer/Kia had no problem paying warranty claims on lightly modded cars. You're probably safe with intakes and exhausts. Anything more radical that? Might as well shake a magic 8 ball.

On the bright side, I've seen very few broken cars requiring service on this board.

Thanks I'll ask around, I had a trusted tuner add 60hp to my Legacy GT and they did a great job making sure the car was happy after they tuned it

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Welcome to the hive! Sorry to hear about your dad. Post up some pics when you get a chance.
As for mods, I would start with asking as few dealers in your area how they feel about it, and if it makes a difference if they installed them or not.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry about your dad. I'm sure he would have liked the Stinger.

He means of your Stinger, not your dad. ;):P

Glad you know that your dad would approve. That should add a special quality to having this car. Welcome to the forum.

Congrats man for your new toy, sorry for your loss. Now you need to wash the car, chemically decontaminate the car with Car Pro Trix, clay it, polish it and through a nice Gyeon One ceramic coating.:D
