Hi all, did a few pulls this weekend for the first time on map 2 with shell e93. Wanted to see if everything is ok before moving to map 3 with a e85 mix.

Looking forward to feedback on these logs. My opinion is it's acceptable, but wouldn't go higher unless you improve your octane situation.

Looks fine not the best and not the worst I have seen. A little more octane would probably clear it up more. If you want to go higher you will need more octane no doubt. I would probably splash in a little E now and clear up what is there if you want

Doesn't look good to me. I saw some 3s, 4s, and even 5s in your timings. That isn't good. However, it can be improved. Try an ECU reset and then do a nice long pull if you safely can. In all likelihood you will see .8 across the board after the ecu reset. That is fine as long as it is consistent for all cylinders.

I would definitely also do the ECU reset when changing your fuel types especially if you are adding more Ethanol.

I don't have a ton of faith in the accuracy of the timing section. I have run like 98 octane in map2 and got corrections with brand new plugs. So I think there is other things such as phantom noise, false readings, and other things that are showing up that aren't actually there. I have a log the other day with 8.3 of timing corrections and I wasn't even on the gas just coasting and then accelerate and coast again. Terry said even that it can be off.

That is precisely why an ECU reset is necessary. It clears that “noise” out and gives you much more realistic readings for the particular scenario you are currently running.

Any readings for anything but full throttle are irrelevant. The recommendations only apply at full wide open throttle.

Totally agree but like right now I'm running 93 mix with E85 probably a 95-96 octane blend and getting at some points over 3.5 which can't be on almost new correctly gapped plugs. I think that the JB4 tends to pick up noise from other stuff that really isn't timing retard. I have posted a log here of a Map 3 with 93/E85 E25 and there is noise

It's hard since I'm in the city but I'll try to test and log again this weekend.

Was that after an ECU reset?

Here is what my E28 Map 3 looks like after an ECU reset for a full 1/4 mile pass in extremely hot conditions. I would say this log looks pretty solid.

How would I go around doing a ECU reset? Just change the maps?
Open the trunk. Close and lock all of the doors except for the trunk. Disconnect the battery in the trunk. You can just unplug the negative wire. Wait 5-10 minutes. Reconnect the battery. Drive around a bit and then do some pulls. You will probably see .8 across the board at WOT then. As you do more pulls it might go to all zereos or you might see higher numbers if things aren't exactly where they should be.

Hey guys,

Just installed my JB4 with fuel wires. Attached is a MAP2 pull, although a bit short. Mainly posting because I THINK I had a slight misfire going from 1st to 2nd and wanted to see if that is true and I don't know how to read these yet. If its not enough data then I will do another one, its just hard to do around town. I still have stock plugs but gapped to .24

Thanks.

what gas are you running? The timing variations are a bit much. If you are running 91, that may explain it. Either way I would try to get gas from another place, full tank if you can, and post up a map 1 and a map 2 log for review again. Also find a place to safely do a pull up to 80-90 mph if you can. You are looking for numbers between 0 and 2.3 on Ignition 2-6 at most. Lastly, maybe you should put in new plugs, gapped correctly, or re-check the gap on the existing plugs. Others have had success with an ECU reset too.

It’s 93 octane, but I remembered just now I have a bottle of Techron in there so maybe that could affect things? It’s almost gone, so I’ll definitely refill somewhere else too. And I did order the colder Denso plugs, so maybe with all that and ECU reset things will look better. I’ll post an update once that’s all done.
Thanks for the detailed feedback so far.
