First I've been lurking these forums and reading a lot. I pulled the trigger on a Jb4 and Hks M45il spark plugs. I have very little knowledge on engines and installing these types of things on cars, but I know I could do anything with research. I installed this with a buddy, and everything is running great and smooth, I definitely feel the power.

At first we got the new spark plugs in, and then the Jb4. After we installed the Jb4, we took it for a test drive and noticed more power instantly. But I realized I forgot the fuel wires. So we went back to work to get that installed. Took it for another run and felt like more power but wasnt sure, my buddy and I wondered why some gauges on the jb4 app aren't working. So we figure that we needed to install the Obd2 cable. Got that put in but was a pain as the area around the grommet was heavily taped. After that install, all gauges worked! And noticed it pulled even harder, more power!

My question is, is that Obd2 cable needed, I assumed it wasnt, so left it out initially. Will fuel wires not work without it? It's been running great so far. My next mod, will be the intakes. I'm looking at injen, do you guys notice more power after intakes?

OBD2 only needed for logging.

The same company that makes the JB4 sells an intake for the Stinger. With their intake they showed gains of something like 25hp and 25lb/tq gains in peak power on map2.

Here's the dyno chart:

Any of the aftermarket intakes should give you solid gains when running jb4.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I personally dont think intakes are good for much hp. Maybe 5 to 15. Nothing noticeable. I cant vouch for any as I've only had one. That said buy the injens. Probably as good as any and you will thank yourself every time you open the hood. Great sound too.20190421_194030.webp

It looks like not everyone is on the same page about this. Can Terry confirm here that OBD needs to be plugged in to take advantage of the fuel wires and more power.

Also, do I need to connect my phone to Jb4 everytime for my selected map to be active? I selected Map2, and just curious if it stays that way when I start the car without connecting.

The link I posted is Terry on his own forum saying OBDII is needed for fuel wires.

And you only need to connect your phone to the JB4 to change logs or log data. If you enable auto logging then you only need to connect to retrieve logs.

That is not necessarily true. A lot of factors come into play i.e. engine displacement, turbo size, boost levels, etc. etc.

On my 2010 GT-R, the stock intakes used panel filters with 2.75 inch piping. Going to an aftermarket 3.0 inch intake with conical filters similar to the Injen's netted a 25-30 WHP documented increase in power. A 20-25 WHP increase in our engines is not out of the realm of possibilities. Probably depends a lot in how restrictive the Kia engineers designed the OEM intakes.

Hopefully, this is something of interest to the OP and not a thread highjack, but will the JB4 ODB cable work off of an ODBII splitter?

Terry has confirmed multiple times that the OBD2 cable is required for the fuel wires to work. The JB4 doesn't know the AFR without the OBD2 connection, so you don't want to modifying something it can't monitor.

I believe a couple people have tried with the splitter and it does not work

lol - you have to pop the grommet open from the side of it. I too almost tried to cut through the electrial tape but then realized what the how-to video was trying to say. I then had to unplug my ECU so I can get my oversized hands down to reach the cable.

And yes, you need the OBDII connected to run the fuel maps. I have been running on stock plugs with no issues on Map 1 and will be changing out the spark plugs for Denso's .022 tomorrow so I can set it on Map 2. I cant freaking wait...

Map2 also looks like it needs intakes to take full advantage of it too - so that will be another cant wait to-do.

Stinger intakes are typically 15 hp peak and 30-40 hp at redline. Best mod after a tune.
