What I noticed on mine is the deposits were very uneven. My assumption is the idle combustion is very localized and sooty, probably due to the failing tip, causing the portion of the plug facing the little sub-chamber to get dark. And we're pulling plugs after driving around and idling in a driveway - not at the top end of a dragstrip.

As for mine... Yes, the plugs were dark and sooty... My best guess was that my son has commandeered the car so I don't drive it as often anymore... He had let me know in passing that it was running funny, and oh, yeah there's been a light on for a while....
