I have a new 2019 Premium Stinger. It went back to the dealer immediately after picking it up due to ISG system not working at all. Turns out it was battery problem. Now it is working but when at a red light, engine only shuts down for 30 or 40 seconds and then restarts. Since many Florida lights can be 2 minutes or longer, this sort of defeats the purpose of ISG. Is this normal? Based on forum entries, it seems like my ISG is not operating as it should.

On many cars.if the temperature in the car changes, the engine will start to provide heating or cooling depending where you have the temperature set. I'm not sure the Kia does this.

I have the AC on set low. The back still runs while the engine stops via ISG. From all I have read, it should stay off for 2 minutes or so. The longest I have seen it off is 40 seconds. Maybe the outside temp is a factor and the AC is not running as strongly when the engine stops. In that case, you may be right and the inside temp is rising. I will check this out in the evening when it is cooler and the AC is off. Thanks.

It's in the manual - if the A/C needs to run, it will restart the engine to avoid draining the battery.. IF you turn off all heating/cooling/stereo, it should stay off the full length of the light..

I've owned the car for over a year and put over 10,000km, and I've never turned ISG off, because it simply just never turns the engine off. I think the engine has turned off less than 20 times total.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

Yes. That sounds about normal. As mentioned, you get a choice between comfort or fuel economy: turn off your AC at the light and the engine will stay off a lot longer (unless you have a low battery; and I don't mean low enough to not operate the car otherwise: just not enough charge to signal to the "head computer" that it can run ISG i.e. turn the engine off). Sounds like you really want your ISG. Hope it isn't a deal breaker for you: because I think this will be a constant headache of disappointed expectations.

I don't want to start a separate thread for this, so ill ask here.

Does anyone know if the stingers use the normal starter for auto start? Ive heard some newer cars are using other technology, like tracking where the pistons are and simply using fuel and spark to restart the car. Or others using an electric motor to restart the car using the serpentine belt.

Howdy, welcome to the forum. I'm only saying that. Your question is "above my pay grade". :P
