Hi,

I am building a hotrod with a 2018 3.3l Stinger engine. When I purchased the wrecked vehicle unfortunately I did not get the original keys. I have since purchased a pair of keys from a 2020 Stinger and other parts from the wreck of that car are available. I will be using a MOTEC ECU for this project and do not have the original ECU.

I would like to know if anyone has experience with the codes associated with the Stinger smart keys and which part of the vehicle electrical system the codes are stored within.
I can purchase the Integrated Body Control Unit from the vehicle that I got the keys from and I was hoping this is where the smart key information is stored. Hopefully this will allow me to start the engine without reprogramming for a new set of keys.
Is this correct or is there another part or module I require?
Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Not yet, I am still doing fabrication on the body and have just completed the chassis. Will start the wiring soon.

A few years back some guys swapped a Stinger engine into a DeLorean, and would've had to figure out the electricals. Might be worth reaching out to them (Otsuka Maxwell Design, and Reid Performance/Lamborfuckinghini) to see if they can offer help.

Yes they did a good job. They removed the direct injection and variable valve timing. Additionally they used a Porsche gearbox. Their engine harness was made totally independent of the vehicle harness. It’s a significantly different swap to what I am attempting to do. Mine may well be easier if I get rid of the Kia transmission and the other Kia components I’m attempting to use.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I got a body control unit from a wrecked stinger. The car won't even go into accessory without the key that's coded to the unit being in the car. If you can get the unit and the key fob it'll work just fine, if not you'll have to take the unit to Kia and have them program your fob to it because even with a bidirectional obd2 scanner you can't do it without one working key from what I've seen. Ebay is a good place to get both parts from the same car.

Thanks that is great information. I have purchased keys and a body unit apparently from the same vehicle. I shall use those and hope I haven’t been misled by the seller. Could you recommend a good bidirectional scanner?

This is the one I got, it has all the bells and whistles but you'll have to play with it and watch YouTube to figure it all out. My son has the bluedriver, I hear it's good but I've never used it so I don't know anything about it. Launch is a good brand.
