Installed HPFP, new problems

hi, I currently have a JB4 + intakes and I’ve been running an E30-50 mix and it works well, I can mess around with Map6 and make some pretty good numbers on the stock fuel system. I decided though it was time to upgrade so I got the Spool FX-150 fuel pump and slapped it on today, and now my fuel pressure and performance has dramatically decreased and I’m noticing a new host of issues. I’m not sure if these are preexisting or because of the HPFP, it’s been a few months since I’ve checked but when I first ran the numbers it looked fine and I haven’t changed anything since then.

My ign_1 timing is mostly a good except for a few areas where it spikes to 40+ and 0 at shift points, my fuel pressure crashes on almost every map except map 0 causing my throttle to cut, and probably some other stuff I’m forgetting. I have a log attached and I switch between maps 0, 2, 3, 4, and 6, and I can send a screenshot of my map 6 parameters if anyone would like. Also sent a screenshot of the chart version, it’s hard to read but you can see the RPM do this weird staircase thing (green line on the right side) as it starts to shudder or stutter from some cause whether it be timing or fuel pressure.

The pump install itself was perfectly fine, the only thing I can come to be concerned is about the seal between the pump adapter and the crankcase top/lid I put some red gasket maker for a better seal, I heard somewhere it could be good. I was told by a buddy it might have made too much of a gap causing the pump to not fully get depressed/pushed by the camshaft mechanism so I may try removing that? Other than that, unless the pump is broken (I got it used but new condition and never had issues), then I have no idea where to start. Anything helps, thanks!

I don't have experience with the upgraded fuel pump (probably worth posting over on jb4tech forums, they're pretty helpful), but timing plummeting between gears (and spiking off throttle) is normal. You want to see a steady increase through the rev range during WOT, and can ignore what it does around shifts.

Looks like the spool pump isn't that great.

Regardless, add in our BEF, we should be able to get fuel pressure up.

You experienced the same thing I did with the 150. It only took me one week to swap back in the factory and all the issues cleared up.
BTW, I have a slightly uses FX-150 for sale... any takers? LOLOLOL

LMAO right maybe if I strap a second one down I’ll get to STOCK pressures. Can’t believe this isn’t a more known issue and Spool is just selling it…
