Hello All,
I'll be installing an Injen CAI with Velossa Big Mouth Snorkels next Thursday. After doing some reading about rain and hydrolock I am starting to get a little worried. On another thread an individual said he visted San Diego, right down the street from me on vacation and got hydrolock. This area doesn't rain much but when it does it floods. Our drainage system is horrible. I don't want to be to not leave my house due to a rain or travel when necessary since I have to drive to the desert through the mountains often. Will the snorkels suck more water while raining? Is there a way to avoid this ? I know you can put shields on or skirts for water. We are experiencing monsoons in the desert now and those can be unexpected rain squalls at any moment. Any tips or knowledge is greatly appreciated.

I've never had any problems with my snorkels sucking in rain water. I'm in South Carolina and it rains here all the time. I would imagine it would be pretty hard for the rain water to make it pass the slight upwards bend in the snorkel.

Do you know if the guy who hydrolocked have a vented hood without vent covers in the rain?

Vented hood, no vent covers, JT cold air intakes, no shields, snorkels. Rain, snow, car washes no problems. He must have actually drove into a lake or something

That’s good to hear. Thanks for sharing. I do not know about his hood. It’ was on a different thread.

Actually he drive into an intersection here in sd that always floods by the ocean. It can get knee deep sometimes if not deeper.

Unrelated question. Does your hood require hood pins and new hood struts?

New lightweight hood struts yes. Hood pins nah, it shakes but stays out.

Yeah that could do it. The bow wave effect could force the water into the grill and the intake. If going slow you should be fine.

I will definitely be cautions or not even drive during these flooded times.
