I wanted to say farewell to my fellow Stinger owners, since I just picked up a 23 Sorento SX-P. The Stinger has brought smiles to face over the years, and it was always nice to hear compliments from other people as well.
My 39 month lease was up on May 27th of this year, but I could not pass up the $9,000.00 equity that the Stinger had built up; turned it with one payment left.
So, with absolutely no money down of my own, my car payment on the Sorento went down by $68.00 a month and my insurance went down by a modest $1.78 for a 36 month lease with an allowable 12k miles a year.
My first payment was also taken care of by the equity of the Stinger.
My wife’s 2020 Santa Fe Limited always looked much bigger then my Stinger in our garage, but my Sorento know looks at the least taller then hers.

Lease financing has always been confusing to me but are you saying you gave up $9k in equity for $2,500 lower monthly payments?

Why didn't you just sell the Stinger, pay Kia, and pocket the $9k?

I took the $9,000 in equity and applied it to the msrp cost of the Sorento which was $45,485.00.
After all was said and done, I walked out of the Kia dealership with a $441.20 payment over a $520.01 one that I had with the Stinger.
No extra money out of my pocket plus I got a brand new Sorento to boot which included my first payment.
I didn’t want to go to Carmax or privately sell my Stinger.

I fully appreciate this. having just endured a month of listing our 2.0l for sale (not on carmax, although I did look up what they would offer for it) I am reinforced in my dislike for trying to sell cars privately. the only responses I got were all from dealers hoping to score over three thousand dollars less than what a private buyer should give for it. one guy I was working with said that the car market right now is crazy, with most of the evaluators like carmax behind the actual market prices being paid, in other words, buyers are waiting to see what is happening before buying. my wife decided that she likes the 2.0l and so I don't have to sell it after all. we are a 'two stinger' family.

Unless you buy-out your Sorrento at lease end, you are giving that $9,000 away.

True, but I’m unsure what I will do three years from now when my lease is up.
My goal was to lower my payments from my Stinger to the Sorento, and that goal was achieved.
I’m sure I could have only put down $4K, and get 5K in my hands, but I moved in another direction.
I’m really enjoying my Sorento, so as of today it’s a moot point.

I agree with you, but since I’m very early into my three year lease, at this time I’m not sure what I will do at that time.
My goal was to have a much lower payment on my Sorento, then I had on my Stinger which has occurred.
I’m very happy with my Sorento as of today.

Sorento != Stinger...

My 2¢... Obviously it made sense to you though, so disregard everything else.

Always liked the look of the Sorento, just wish it came in a V6 or PHEV config.

Why the switch to an SUV?
What do you like more about the Sorento than the Stinger, and what do you miss?

selling on your own is annoying, but then i remember that making several thousand dollars more is worth dealing with some fools. i paid $42,000 for my previous car, drove it for 4 years, and sold it to a dealer for $39,000 (if i would have sold it 6 months earlier, i most likely would have got what i paid for it )

We get the Sorrento down under but not the Telluride. To my eyes the Sorrento looks a little meh whilst the Telluride still looks great. Wondering why you picked the Sorrento. And what is the SX-P model.

I definitely miss the raw power of the TTV6 for sure, but the Sorento gets up and goes well to.
It was nice to get the looks from people when driving around town, and being asked about the vehicle; she has great lines.
Living in Denver, the roads are crap which makes dodging pot holes annoying which needs to be done with the Stingers low profile tires.
I wanted something that wasn’t so low to the ground and had a bit more ground clearance for the snows we get here.
I have been driving for 36 years and I felt it was time to enter the world of SUV’s.
The ride at least to my wife and I is smoother then the Stinger which makes sense even with it’s 20 inch wheels.
