Hey peeps,

How do you all store your summer tires for the long winter? I used to live in a house with a few dudes, so I just kept them stacked on top of each other in the climate-controlled basement. Now that I own my own home, it is smaller, and I don't have the room. All I have is the attached garage (not finished/heated) and the shed. I live in the Northern VA region, so winters are mild, but every February the nights can get down to the single digits.

They will always have rims attached to them.

I kept my summer wheels/tires in the corner of an unheated garage. I'd cover them up with a big bag from discount tire. Tires/wheels were stored horizontally, with the last wheel on two pieces of wood to keep it from contacting the concrete.

Lower the pressure to about 2/3's normal before storing.

Nice. And do you mean stored vertically? One on top of each other? Bottom one is on wood

I put my unused set of wheels with tires still on (full psi) in tire bags (from Big O) on shelves in the uninsulated shed. Store with the outer rim face-up, otherwise they can get scratched through the bag putting them on or taking them from the shelves.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
The problem with summer tires is putting/removing weight on them if they are cold. With some compounds, if they are cold enough, this can crack the compound. Typically not an issue of there is adequate air in the tire and they are mounted on the car, but the second you try to move the car, you can start damaging the tread. Just sticking them somewhere to sit cold should be fine. It's flexing them when they are cold that is the problem.
