How to remove the mild swirling that came from the dealer with my new Stinger?

I was googling on this topic - amazing the articles you find and bias in information presented (know your sources people). Professional detailers will say car washes are the worst thing ever. Car wash owners will say they are the best thing since sliced bread.

At the end of the day, the only person that needs to be happy with how their car looks is said person (and maybe said person's significant other). If you are going to get your car coated and it comes with a warranty and you use any form of automatic car wash make sure you get it in writing that you are covered.

And to go full circle - you need to polish or have the car polished to remove swirls.

Nope...not all carwash owners....lol

Washing Micro Blue Stinger Car Wash OK?
I should say current car wash owners. Talk about a credible source...I now call to the stand, Washguy

Me: Sir - did you own a car wash with brushes?
WG: Yes
Me: Sir - did you own a car wash with dangling fabric?
WG: Yes
Me: Sir - Would you take your Stinger through any of the car wash tunnels that you owned?
WG: No

CASE CLOSED!!:)

Whoa whoa whoa .....I don't wanna get jailed for perjury ....ive never owned chamois or brush rollover full serve washes...only self serve and touchless washes....BUT I do have close very very close friends that own the chamois (dangle cloth) and brush full serves...so close that in fact your Honor I would run their operations for them while they took vacations...as they also ran mine while I took vacations...so your judgeship I am very familiar with those operations although I don't or didn't own them...:)
Your Honor....the carwash industry is a very small tightly closed group of people across the nation...in towns and cities they all have associations...and there is even a national convention in Vegas each year that includes the showing of new equipment and how to extract extra money from the consumer....lol......I do take back a statement I made about not running any cars thru a full serve brush wash...I have run my 2002 Turbo Excursion thru the neighborhood chamois full serve twice and have the skid marks on the hood to prove it...it still amazes me how the chamois couldn't remove the bird poo but still leave scratches from the cloth? Oh well that SUV wont be in any beauty contests that for sure :) Wash

Well, heck, close enough to be implicated or even "guilty". :D

It amazes me that I can have zero scratches after running through dozens of times. After reading your experience, what can I say?

Merlin You can say that your operator has to take better care of his operation than the full serve that I went to....that's the short term...in the long term if you continually use a chamois type wash your paint will suffer...there is just no way around this....why sure you can detail(polished/buffed) the heck out of it each spring and have the paint look pretty doggone good :) Wash

The fact that you can't see them does not mean they're not there. Lighter colors tend to hide swirls and lights scratches much better than darker colors. If you have used them a dozen times with the Stinger, then I can asure you you have them, unles you have some sort of PPF or ceramic coating.

Yeah, you're probably right. The front half of my car is PPF, so no swirls are going to show up there. 80% of the rest of the top is glass. I have 66 year-old eyes and "rose-colored glasses"::D I don't LOOK for flaws. They have to make me do a doubletake before I will notice them. And Silky Silver is arguably the most friendly color for hiding swirls. I will be getting the detail soon, which will include a buff and wax (I am still considering ceramic; have to talk to some people about how they go about that).

That's the plan. Finish up winter with a "spring cleaning"; and spiff up the paint.

So I noticed the day after I picked up my Ceramic Silver Stinger that it had some minor swirling from some bad dealer wash jobs. I have access to a good polisher, but I honestly have no idea what process or products I should use to remedy these swirls. Ultimately I’d like to get the swirling out before doing PPF and Ceramic. The swirls are rather minor so I’m hoping something simple will work. What would you guys recommend?

Do not return the vehicle to the dealer. They will only make it worse. Insist the paint is corrected by a paint correction facility. It took me over 6 months to get mine fixed, the right way. This was after the dealer screwed it up even more

I have the same issue with mine.. its going to the dealer for paint correction on Tuesday. I confirmed a two step process to level the paint as well as a polishing after. Then I can coat it.

Yikes paint correction and dealer don't jive....correction from a dealer is a minimum wage guy with a big ol buffer and some DuPont number 7...OUCH Yes you can coat whats left.... :) Wash
even if the dealer has a guy coming in to do it....run away

Start with 6 passes, 2 firm pressure, 2 medium, then 2 light. Wipe off the residue and inspect. Mike a tape line so you can see the difference, you will be amazed. Change the pad after every 2 body panels. Try- to work in 2 x 2 sections. DO NOT take it to the dealer, they are the ones who got it in that shape then happily took your money. They will likely make it worse. Fg400 is a diminishing abrasive so it should clear up the swirls and also finish like a finishing polish.

It's a detail shop they bring in once a week to do things like this. Not an employee of theirs. :)

Late to the party, but my stinger came with dealer installed swirl as well. It really isn't difficult to remove.

First I clayed the car to remove any road tar get a kit like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071J3S3ZY/ as you WILL drop your clay 75% of the way though, and dropped clay goes straight in the trash (Dropped anything, towels, finishing pads, etc = trash.)

For dual orbital polisher I use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MS2CGM0 with https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076HKT61H Use patience, a light touch, and watch enough youtube videos that you are confident you know you won't "Burn Through". Label the back of your pads for each purpose (each cutting level, wax, etc)

Any bad scratches are removed with Meguiar's M105 (But you shouldn't need this)

Then light scratches with Meguiar's M0116 Mirror Glaze Medium-Cut Cleaner (or Fine cut) Absolutely had some showroom scratches that came out with this.

Then a final polishing step with Meguiar's M20532 Mirror Glaze Ultra Finishing Polish

You could feel free to go to Meguiar’s M0316 Mirror Glaze Machine Glaze, but I don't bother.

Your car is then ready for ceramic nano coating or just wax

I used this Nano https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MCVRG9W it was very affordable and I LOVE how rain is beading off 4 months later.

This is my goto wax https://www.amazon.com/Collinite-476-Super-Doublecoat-Auto/dp/B002P3ZO2E for the stinger https://www.amazon.com/Collinite-Liquid-Insulator-Wax-845/dp/B000JK2D06 for my other cars.

For interior I suggest the Chemical Guys line of products. Items such as this are my favorites https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001TI1F5Q
This wash mit https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003TTL0TE/ and all their towels sponges and pads.

For leather I recommend the Lexol cleaner and conditioner products https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000637TE6 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000637TNM (also use on your boots and furniture!)

Can't wait for the weather to get better and then I know what I will be doing!

Oh final product, if you have an Ikea near you, storing all these items in this rolling caddy was perfection RÅSKOG Utility cart - IKEA

Wow! You are awesome! I had been looking at the Chemical Guys V36 and V38. I assume that they would be comparable to the Maguires products you mentioned?

Also, are there any spots in the Stinger that we’re difficult to polish? How do you handle those? Any do you mask off the black chrome and black plastic when working near that?

I have been told Meguiar's M205 will take care of swirl marks and very light scratching. I have a few light scratches and plan to use that with a microfiber to remove. But that's a very small (1' x 1') area. Hopefully it does the job and I don't need a DA Orbital. But for a whole car you'd want the DA as a time-saver for sure.
