How does the Kia Stinger GT have the same monthly insurance as a new Hellcat??

I was pretty stunned to find this out. I always assumed the Hellcat would double or triple my insurance. Right now I pay $126 a month for full coverage on my Kia Stinger GT. I called my insurance agent for a quote on a Hellcat Charger and he said it would go up $18 PER YEAR, so less than $2 per month! How is this even possible?

No idea seems odd. My 2020 GT1 costs me about 25.00 less a month than my 2017 Wrx did. Incase people don’t know the Wrx is the most issues speeding ticket vehicle in the US.

It could be a case of them seeing fewer hellcat claims, or being cheaper to repair, or having a higher average age of ownership.

Stingers are proving to be expensive and tricky to repair (my own incident topped 13k and over a month in the shop) so I wouldn't be surprised if rates keep climbing with each renewal.

Insurance underwriting is a mystery... I traded in a stinger 2.0 (no driver assist features), and got a stinger 3.3TT (also no driver assist features), and my premium went down... makes no sense, but I’ll take it.

let's also not forget that different insurance companies will have vastly different rates. I shopped around for my Stinger GTS insurance and received quotes for my preferred coverage anywhere from $700 to upwards of $2000 per 6 months.

Nothing changed from my situation except the car itself... and the new car is much higher “risk” with a significantly higher value, with not a single added safety feature... again, insurance underwriting is a mystery.

A complete mystery. The insurance company that was by far the cheapest for my previous car wasn't even close for the stinger

Move to Michigan and then talk about insurance.

When I got my new '66 Corvette, State Farm wanted something like 3x the insurance on my '65 Mustang. I wound up going with Globe Insurance (A division of Swift Meat Co.), because they defined it as a Chevrolet, 2 door, manual transmission. And the insurance was about 1/2 that of the Mustang. :)
