I've been using the drop / slam method for years on my previous cars as well. Ive only been using the push method recently which is easier on the latch mechanism but paranoid about denting the hood/bonnet. Although I've found a sweet spot which requires the least force to push it shut completely.

The owners manual does say:

"Lower the hood halfway and push down to securely lock in place. Check the hood has engaged properly. If the hood can be raised slightly, it is not properly engaged. Open it again and close it with a little more force."

Everytime I try the method suggested on the owners manual, I always end up not shutting it properly after pushing it down from halfway and have to literally slam that hood shut. That is why I lower the hood fully, latch it manually and push it shut with my palms on the middle edge near where the latch connects, fingers facing sideways. I find that it locks easier when pushing not directly on top of the latch, but palms on either side.

How do you guys close yours?

I hire a team of Norwegian models who soak their hands in oil to ensure supple contact while nasa guides them to use precisely 9.876 ft lbs of pressure for 3/10ths of a second while at the apex of contact with the hood engagement clasp.

Jesus Christ. It’s a gd hood.

About halfway & let it drop, with newer cars these days I never push with the palms of my hands.

Hood and hatch lid, same method: c. six inches up, give it a little downward encouragement as I drop it.

Yeah, I’ve got to give it a bit of encouragement from about 12” up. Otherwise it won’t close

Halfway and let it drop.

Perhaps you should consider paying someone to work under the hood/bonnet for you. :geek:
