How can I do this to the GT2?

I'm a fly fisherman and like to keep my 9' (4-piece) rod in the car with me, without breaking it down. I know I can fit it into the GT2 when one of the seats are dropped down. However, dropping a seat down will probably let unnecessary noise into the cabin. If this wasn't to be a leased car, I would simply cut a small hole where the armrest drops down from. So, I'm wondering if some smart DIYer could suggest how to cut that hole so that when the car is turned in, it would be "too" detectable...or maybe not even detectable??? Thanks.

Thanks all for your suggestions, but none of them will work for me. Just one rod and I'm not going to separate the sections. AV8R's suggestions were good, but a 9' rod won't fit in the cabin. For my last three cars (325, ATS, C300,) it was no problem as they all had ski pass throughs behind the center armrest and I was hoping for the same approach.

Sorry we cant help further. Let us know how you go.

Get 2 black desk grommets and cut the back off both. Cut hole in arm rest recess and fix grommets in place.

Folding the rear seats makes no noticeable difference in cabin noise.

I’m not a fly fisherman but I used to carry surf rods the same length and longer than yours. I used to run the rod down inside the cabin on the passenger side of the car. The butt would sit on the luggage rack at the back pressed up against the rear glass, the rod would run between the headrest and the side of the car and the tip would extend out the open window. Wrap the tips, wind the window up until it’s just firm against the rod and away you go. Is that an option for you?

it sounds like he wants to be able to keep his rod in the car 24/7 so this wouldn't work for him

I like this theory, I'd use a 4" hole saw and cut through the seat behind the armrest then 3D print a 2 piece flanged grommet. I'd have it be threaded and have it push in from the front side. then the second piece would thread in on the back side looking all neat and tidy. You could print a plug to close off the hole if you wanted as well.

PETG, ABS or ASA for material as it will need to withstand some heat in the summer months.

I like ShannonC's and WildBill's approaches. Would just have to have the balls to do it and hope that on lease turn-in, it wouldn't be picked up. Of course, if i weren't so lazy, I could simply break the rod in two and keep it in the truck. Then again, my only concern here would be that the constant breaking down would eventually wear out the ferrels...i do fish every day.

If you had dimensions for diameter and thickness of the seat I could design and print you up something.

Hey WildBill, that is awfully nice of you. As my present lease isn't up until August, it looks as though we'll have to wait a bit. Once I do get the car, I'll take look at actually what has to be done and see how I feel about cutting/patching with grommets (i.e, will I feel that the DIY will pass turn in inspection.) Nonetheless, a three to four inch hole would suffice.
