Hey guys, for the past few week, I've started to notice faint high pitched noise coming from the passenger front wheel area.

At first I thought I was just imagining things, but it's definitely there. Can't really notice it with the windows closed, however, with it open there is that slight high pitched noise.
It's definitely more noticeable when I have the car close to a wall like a drive through because the sound will be bouncing off from it.

I've did a search on this forum, but came up empty.
Any ideas ?

My car is completely stock with the exception of OCC. But the noise was there even before the OCC.

The car only has about 5,200 miles on it.

Sounds like it could require a trip to the dealer:(

So I guess that means that no one has experienced this noise?

That's a negative: in my brief time here, I've not heard anyone make this complaint before. A first hypothesis would be a wheel bearing going bad. That is super rare in such a new car, but, this is a once-off (so far) so anything's possible.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
You might want to add some description to the noise. Does it increase with vehicle speed? Does it increase with RPMs? What pattern does it follow?

Does it sound a bit like a police siren?

The noise is there when the engine is on and the car is parked. So I think we can rule out the wheel bearing.

I've revved up the engine to see if the noise gets louder, but it doesn't seem like it.

I guess a trip to the dealer is a good idea...
I'll keep you guys posted if I find out the cause.

Thanks

Revving doesn't build enough boost, but I'm beginning to worry that your turbo whine is what you're hearing, but it shouldn't be doing it if you're cruising...

Just stopped by the dealer.

The service advisor said that he's never heard that kind of noise before in his "30 yrs of experience" and that I would have to leave my car with them for the tech to go thru and try to find the cause.
I made an appointment to drop off the car tomorrow morning.

He was giving me a hard time with the OCC saying that I have now re-engineered the engine than from what Kia has done...

Should I remove the OCC before dropping off the car tomorrow ?

If they seem like real douchebags who say something as stupid as "re-engineered" over a catch can, then yes, I'd remove it.

Of course, you don't actually have to because you haven't re-engineered anything with a catch can... You can always try explaining it to dolts who say things like that and hope they get it: the catch can literally just catches the oil blow-by instead of letting it blow into the engine to get burned up. While letting the engine burn it up is good for emissions/the environment, it also means blow-by oil is collecting on valves and dirtying up the intake manifold.

if the OCC is properly installed then his "30 years of experience" claim just went out the window. If it really bothers them then remove it.

I dropped off my car at the dealership to figure out the high pitched noise coming from the engine this morning.
My service adviser called me at the end of the day that they try to pin point the source of the noise, but couldn't really find it.
After multiple back and forth inquires with the Kia corporate techs, they have no clue.
They do hear the sound all right, but it is rather faint (I cannot hear it with windows up, but can hear it when I'm driving thru a tunnel at slow speed because the sound is bounced off of the walls).

Dealership said that the sound is coming from the engine area, and it is actually being bounced up by the under panel.
They think it's coming from the alternator fin, so they proposed to replace the alternator and see what happens, however
Kia corp denied the authorization. Dealership said that there is nothing further they can do and just bring it back IF the noise
gets louder and I start to notice anything strange with the car...

I'm about to install a catback exhaust after I get my car back, and I know they're going to give me a hard time
with the aftermarket exhaust, judging by they reacted with the OCC, when I return with the similar issues.

Any ideas fellas?

Find a better dealer? Or have a lawyer with you at all times when you visit the dealership. This makes me glad I have a salvage car. They can't void my warranty because I am the warranty.

Find another dealer. Catback exhaust doesn’t affect anything warranty wise.
