Hi Stinger owners, I have recently purchased a 2018 Stinger with the V6. Lately the temperatures have been around -20C here in the great white north and I have noticed that after startup the idle won't drop below 1000 rpm. It's usually closer to 1200 rpm which is causing the car to jump into gear when I shift into drive. Is this normal? It seems to me that can't be right but waiting for who knows how long for the idle to drop down is not a great option either. Any thoughts on this? Thanks, Gary.

The jump you describe is weird, are you putting your foot on the brake and shifting it into gear? Putting a car at 1200 rpm into gear should not cause anything too alarming to happen. I often start mine and within 5-10 seconds start backing out of the driveway, engine still running above normal idle. I don't notice anything I'd be concerned about. [worth noting that all of my vehicles in the past 20 years behaved the same when when doing this]

Engaging the clutch pack when shifting into gear will always result in some lurch as the engine is now spinning the flywheel.

I guess jump was the wrong word. Thanks.

My car drops to 1100-1200rpm after 10-12 seconds and off I go. It doesn't jump into gear but there's is naturally a little surge going forward.

Your situation sounds rather abnormal.

So thats way colder than ive even experenced. But high idle in cold weather and Antartic conditions is normal. Make sure its warmed up alll the way or at least oil temps in the 140+ degrees Fahrenheit

what is your guy's idle rpm normally? nice warm 80-degree weather?

35 degree momrings idle is 1200 1300 for a little bit while it warms up sounds great with my intakes and it goes back down to 700 800 by the warm point
As im driving that is

Same, when living in a colder climate (only recently moved to Vegas) the RPMs on my vehicles would be as high as 1800 on the coldest mornings but back off fairly quick. Cars were always functional when I wanted them to be, regardless of RPMs.

high idle during very cold warmup is pretty normal. Remote start is your friend here. Let it run for 5 mins and you should be good.

My morning routine is at 715 or so go start the car activate the defrost heat seats and wheel and go back inside to help get the kids ready then i have a warm ride to work

Why are there 2 virtually identical threads ?

Weather was -5°C
But idle rpm when engine fully warm (100°C) was 631 in neutral, and the exact same in drive.

Sceenshot from just now.

No, but every car needs at least 60 seconds to a couple min for the idle to start dropping. Driving around -10F more than a few times this winter.
